Sinossi

The Borgia family became prominent during the Renaissance in Italy. They were from Valencia, the name coming from the family fief of Borja, then in the kingdom of Aragon, in Spain. The Borgias became prominent in ecclesiastical and political affairs in the 15th and 16th centuries, producing two popes, Alfons de Borja who ruled as Pope Callixtus III during 1455–1458 and Rodrigo Lanzol Borgia, as Pope Alexander VI, during 1492–1503. Especially during the reign of Alexander VI, they were suspected of many crimes, including adultery, simony, theft, bribery and murder (especially murder by arsenic poisoning). Because of their grasping for power, they made enemies of the Medici, the Sforza, and the Dominican friar Savonarola, among others. They were also patrons of the arts who contributed to the Renaissance.

Nobody has ever detailed history's most ruthless rulers and tyrants with as much flair and passion as French writer Alexandre Dumas.

Gordon Menzies was in the room as bankers, economists and Cabinet members deregulated Australia’s economy. In this rare and mystical work, Manly P. Hall unveils the hidden thread of spiritual brotherhood that guides the evolution of humanity from behind the veil. The Brothers of the Shining Robe refers to the invisible order of Initiates, Sages, and Adepts who, throughout the ages, have silently labored for the advancement of truth, beauty, and enlightenment on Earth.
Through poetic symbolism and philosophical insight, Hall traces the legacy of these hidden guardians—from ancient Egypt and Greece to the esoteric schools of the East and the secret societies of the modern West. He explores their doctrines, their sacred duty to the soul of the world, and their constant battle against ignorance and materialism.
More than a history, this book is a spiritual call to remembrance: that there are still those who wear the shining robe—not of cloth, but of light—and who work for the regeneration of the human spirit. Their presence is known not by words, but by their silent wisdom and unwavering service.

    The Discovery of Tutankhamun's...

The search for Tutankhamun’s tomb was one of the most ambitious archaeological pursuits of the early 20th century. For years, Egyptologists and explorers had scoured the Valley of the Kings, believing that the burial site of the young pharaoh remained hidden beneath the desert sands. Despite previous excavations yielding little success, one man remained convinced that the tomb had yet to be discovered.
Howard Carter, a British archaeologist, had spent decades working in Egypt, developing an unmatched expertise in excavation. His belief in the existence of Tutankhamun’s tomb was fueled by fragments of artifacts bearing the young pharaoh’s name, suggesting that his final resting place was still untouched. However, funding such an extensive search required a patron, and it was Lord Carnarvon, a wealthy British aristocrat, who provided the financial backing. In 1917, Carter’s systematic excavation of the Valley of the Kings began, but after several years of fruitless digging, Carnarvon grew impatient.
By 1922, with resources nearly depleted, Carter convinced Carnarvon to allow him one final season of excavation. It was in November of that year that Carter’s persistence paid off. While investigating an area near the tomb of Ramses VI, workers uncovered a set of steps leading down into the earth. Clearing away the debris, Carter discovered a sealed doorway marked with the insignia of Tutankhamun. Excitement and caution filled the air as he realized that the tomb had remained undisturbed for centuries.

    Philosophy in the Islamic World...

In the history of philosophy, few topics are so relevant to today's cultural and political landscape as philosophy in the Islamic world. Yet, this remains one of the lesser-known philosophical traditions. In this Very Short Introduction, Peter Adamson explores the history of philosophy among Muslims, Jews, and Christians living in Islamic lands, from its historical background to thinkers in the twentieth century.

Introducing the main philosophical themes of the Islamic world, Adamson integrates ideas from the Islamic and Abrahamic faiths to consider the broad philosophical questions that continue to invite debate: What is the relationship between reason and religious belief? What is the possibility of proving God's existence? What is the nature of knowledge? Drawing on the most recent research in the field, this book challenges the assumption of the cultural decline of philosophy and science in the Islamic world by demonstrating its rich heritage and overlap with other faiths and philosophies.
