Synopsis

“This book aims to teach conflict management through the art of dialogue. By understanding the power of words, each individual can make or break the outcome of the conversation and eventually of the interaction. Healthy language and healthy behaviors can be seen as “superpowers” in this day and age where conflict and aggression are everywhere and between everyone, and it seems this madness is increasing daily. With the increase of conflict between anyone and everywhere, the mental-physical well-being of any single individual, especially the new generation, is affected in a negative way. Return to Shadow School for the second installment of the spooky middle-grade series from J. A. White, the acclaimed author of Nightbooks and The Thickety series.
Cordelia Liu’s first year at Shadow School was a success. She studied hard and made friends. She also sent hundreds of ghosts into the afterlife, because Shadow School isn’t a normal school, and Cordelia Liu isn’t a normal girl.
But her second year is already different. Ghosts are refusing to move on, the teachers are acting weird, and Cordelia’s best friends, Benji and Agnes, aren’t as interested in rescuing the ghosts as they used to be. Benji is busy hanging out with the girl he befriended over the summer, while Agnes spends all her time building a machine that might be capable of dehaunting the school forever.
Cordelia is the only one who believes that something sinister is happening right under their noses. But what if it’s even worse than she could imagine?
Praise for Shadow School #1 Archimancy:
“Just the right balance of humor, mystery, and scariness. Readers will be eager to see more of this smart and spunky trio in further spooky adventures.” —Kirkus

Fíasól is a seven-year-old crab living in Green Grove in Grasby. Well, she is not actually a crab. She is a girl born in the Cancer star sign, and in her opinion that stinks. So she’s decided to adopt a brand new star sign for herself, it’s called the Flowery Butterfly and is a sign made specially for people who don’t want to be Cancerians.
She lives in Green Grove with her mum and dad, her big sisters Pippa and Bidda, and a couple of poodles, Hansína and Jensína.
Fíasól’s best friend is called Ingo. He is nine years old and lives in the house diagonally opposite hers. Harold, Herbert and Heba live in the house directly opposite. They are also specially good friends of Fíasól’s.
“I’ll never have to leave Green Grove,” Fíasól sometimes says. “I’ve got all my friends here, my stuff, my bed, and the food of course.”
“You’ll need to go to school,” her ten-year-old sister Pippa retorts.
“Yeah, but then I’ll come straight back home because everything I need is here,” Fíasól replies.
“What if you need to see the doctor?” Pippa asks.
“Then I’ll just make a call and get the doctor to come and see me here,” Fíasól says.
“But what if…” Pippa continues, and so it goes on, the sisters bickering day in and day out.
“Oh, I have such an amazingly big imagination,” Fíasól sometime says, sounding pleased with herself. She is right of course.
“You are queen of your very own enormous imagination,” Fíasól’s mum says to her. “But you’ll have to be careful not to let your ideas fly so high that you lose track of them and they come to a sticky end.”
If you live in a big world of imagination you’re either doing just fine, or you’re in trouble. The thing is, it’s often so difficult to recognise whether an idea is good or bad. Good ideas can get you into trouble and bad ideas can look as if they’re rather good, to start with.
