The Tree of the Sephiroth may be considered an invaluable compendium of the secret philosophy which originally was the spirit and soul of Chasidism. The Qabbalah is the priceless heritage of Israel, but each year those who comprehend its true principles become fewer in number. The Jew of today, if he lacks a realization of the profundity of his people's doctrines, is usually permeated with that most dangerous form of ignorance, modernism, and is prone to regard the Qabbalah either as an evil to be shunned like the plague or as a ridiculous superstition which has survived the black magic of the Dark Ages. Yet without the key which the Qabbalah supplies, the spiritual mysteries of both the Old and the New Testament must remain unsolved by Jew and Gentile alike.
The Sephirothic Tree consists of ten globes of luminous splendor arranged in three vertical columns and connected by 22 channels or paths. The ten globes are called the Sephiroth and to them are assigned the numbers 1 to 10. The three columns are called Mercy (on the right), Severity (on the left), and, between them, Mildness, as the reconciling power. The columns may also be said to represent Wisdom, Strength, and Beauty, which form the triune support of the universe, for it is written that the foundation of all things is the Three. The 22 channels are the letters of the Hebrew alphabet and to them are assigned the major trumps of the Tarot deck of symbolic cards.

Moreau: Portrait of a Founder brings to life the inspiring story of French priest Fr. Basil Moreau (1799-1873), and his founding of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Through a masterful blend of personal letters, historical documents, and vivid storytelling, this book is more than a biography; it presents stories of Moreau in the context of his time, supplemented with original correspondences and writings. This book explains how the events of Moreau’s age shaped the way he heard and responded to God’s call for his life, capturing the voices and situations that influenced his actions and beliefs. Moreau was born in Le Mans, France in 1799, died in 1873, and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007. He grew up in the aftermath of the French Revolution, and as a young priest, he felt compelled to revitalize a Church devastated by years of civil war. He gathered priests, brothers, and sisters together into a religious community with a mission to bring hope to the world. Written in 1969 by Fr. Thomas Barrosse, CSC (1926-1994)—a former superior general of the Congregation and a professor at the University of Notre Dame—this updated edition brings to modern readers the foundational stories of the founding of Holy Cross. Br. Joel Giallanza, CSC, a student of Fr. Barrosse, edited this new edition to ensure that the text remains clear and accessible to anyone touched by Fr. Moreau’s legacy. Whether you are a member of the Holy Cross family or someone inspired by its mission, this book is a rich treasury of stories and insights into the heart and soul of a remarkable priest who dedicated himself to making God known, loved, and served by bringing the Gospel to a world in need.

    The Question That Never Goes...

    Why does God allow suffering?
In his classic book Where Is God When It Hurts, Philip Yancey gave us permission to doubt, reasons not to abandon faith, and practical ways to reach out to hurting people.
In this sequel, written 30 years later, Yancey revisits our cry of "Why, God?" in the wake of increased violence and natural disasters the world over. It's a cry that many of us take up with more urgency each year as we sit stunned by the calamities devastating our world, our communities, and our personal lives.
Acknowledging that Christians have not always responded to the problem of pain and grief with grace, Yancey helps us find meaning in the midst of the deepest suffering. The Question That Never Goes Away is a deep and personal reflection on the ways that suffering both challenges and affirms our faith and how we can respond to the existence of evil in a manner that doesn't dismiss it.
"In the face of suffering, words do not suffice. We need something more: the word made flesh, actual living proof that God has not abandoned us, that he shares in our distress," Yancy writes. We find this proof in Jesus, whose own story is one of suffering voluntarily accepted. No other religion has this model of God identifying so deeply and compassionately with humanity—and this changes how we see it and respond to it.
Timely and heartfelt, Philip Yancey has once again offered readers a powerful response to some of the toughest questions that will never leave us in this life.

Judaism, one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions, has a rich tapestry of history, belief, and practice that has evolved over millennia. Rooted in the covenant between God and the Jewish people, Judaism is not only a faith but also a cultural and ethical system that has profoundly influenced Western civilization and continues to shape the lives of millions around the globe. This book aims to explore the intricate layers of Jewish thought, practice, and identity, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of what it means to be Jewish in both historical and contemporary contexts.
At its core, Judaism emphasizes the importance of community, tradition, and moral responsibility. The teachings of the Torah, the sacred text that forms the foundation of Jewish law and ethics, guide adherents in their daily lives, informing their actions and relationships with others. Jewish rituals, festivals, and observances create a rhythm of life that connects individuals to their heritage and to one another, fostering a sense of belonging and continuity.
Throughout the ages, Jews have faced persecution and challenges that have tested their resilience and adaptability. From the ancient biblical narratives to the modern experiences of diaspora and statehood, the Jewish story is one of survival, creativity, and unwavering faith. This book will delve into the historical events that have shaped Jewish identity, including the Babylonian Exile, the destruction of the Second Temple, the Holocaust, and the establishment of the State of Israel, highlighting the lessons learned and the cultural expressions that have emerged from these experiences.
In addition to examining historical contexts, we will also explore the diverse branches of Judaism—Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist—each offering unique interpretations and practices that reflect the dynamic nature of the faith.

Atheism on Trial - A Lawyer...

In the courtroom, lawyers depend on rules of evidence to make their arguments. A case is made by establishing certain facts from which proof can be determined. But what happens when the truth seems to be a matter of faith? Can the legal mind discern the validity of one's belief or unbelief?

Nationally recognized trial lawyer Mark Lanier turns his analytical mind to the arguments for atheism and agnosticism. With critical thinking and precision of thought, he examines the rationales made for unbelief and assesses them on their own terms, finding points of strength and weakness in their logic and coherence. He considers whether atheistic frameworks give satisfactory and consistent explanatory answers for understanding human existence and the world around us. He cross-examines the strongest arguments of prominent atheists and also interrogates the questions of agnostics as to whether God is knowable. Through his evenhanded, levelheaded approach, Lanier challenges us all to decide for ourselves what we believe.
