~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
“Are you almost done out there?” Anna’s voice floated downstairs.
“Yeah, I’m done,” Jimmy called up the staircase. “You can come down if you want.”
He was putting away leftover bits of wrapping paper when a Winter Queen entered the room.
“Anna.” It was a whisper through shaking lips.
“Do you like it?” Anna spun in place, making the hem flare around her hips. “I saw it and I couldn’t say no.”
“It’s…”
Absolutely indecent.
Calling it a negligee was like calling Valentina Belmonte ‘a woman.’ Yeah, sure, it was technically true, but it didn’t even begin to convey the sheer, visceral impact.
It was the purest white imaginable, held together with gossamer thread and wicked fantasies. Clinging like a second skin to her slender, gorgeous body, the lace was formed in a pattern of innumerable snowflakes, so it looked as if Anna, as she walked forward, her hips moving in a slow, seductive sway, was constantly in the process of emerging, naked, from a winter storm. Constantly emerging, but never becoming fully visible. It was a goad to the imagination, making you wonder what she looked like with nothing on at all.
Jimmy stared at his sister, and felt his heart begin to pound in his chest.
“It’s…what, Jimmy?” She looked up at him, blue eyes shining. “Come on, say something.”
He swallowed.
“Well, if you’re not going to do anything with your mouth, maybe I should find something for it to do.” Anna drew closer, her breasts almost touching his chest, as she lifted her lips towards his.
“We’re not under the mistletoe,” he croaked.
“Like I care about that.”
And she kissed him again, and this time Jimmy could feel her wanton, carnal heat. Everywhere their bodies touched, he caught fire. Anna was moaning into his mouth, lifting her leg to rub at his hip.
“No!”
But he didn’t push her away. Instead, Jimmy broke. He reached down, clasping Anna’s rear in his hands. With one swift move, he lifted her up, pulling her against him, and then turned to the wall, holding her there with his weight and with the strength of his own body.
“Enough, Anna.” He glared down at her, at her wide eyes, her parted lips, her heaving chest. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
She looked back up at him. “I think I’m trying to seduce you. And not doing a very good job of it, if this is what happens when a girl kisses you.”
“No.” He shook his head while he pulled down the straps of the negligee. His sister’s breasts sprang free, large and firm and lovely and as golden-skinned as the rest of her. No tan lines, his mind gibbered insanely. She must go to a tanning salon. “That’s not good enough. Tell me why.”
“Jimmy.” Anna swallowed, her throat bobbing. “You’re scaring me. A little.”
    Ransom War - How Cyber Crime...
    This timely book explores the alarming rise of ransomware: malicious software blocking users from their systems or data until they've paid money to regain access or to prevent the release of sensitive information. High-profile British examples of the twenty-first century have targeted national libraries and healthcare organizations; in the US, hackers of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley Health Network held patient data hostage—when their demands went unmet, they published topless photographs of women with breast cancer.
    The issue presents formidable challenges and costs for businesses, national security and, as the Pennsylvania case showed, individuals—often society's most vulnerable. But we can watch and learn from cyber extortionists, leaving us better prepared for next time. In 2022, a series of devastating ransomware attacks prompted Costa Rica's president to declare a national emergency, describing a "state of war." This episode had much to tell us about how these networks arise, operate, organize—and collapse.
    Max Smeets's landmark study demystifies the ransomware playbook, from funding to networking. Through one of the largest ransomware operations on record, he reveals how this challenge has evolved, how it differs in substance and style from traditional cyber/hacking threats, and how to combat it.
    The Race Ahead - Overcoming...
    In Dr. J. Bruce Stewart's transformative work, "The Race Ahead," readers are taken on a compelling journey into the depths of racial bias ingrained in American society and the mind itself. This groundbreaking book not only diagnoses the presence and origins of racial biases but also prescribes a sophisticated blueprint for eradicating them, aimed at rewiring how we perceive and interact across racial lines.
    Dr. Stewart begins by exploring the psychological foundations of bias, focusing particularly on the amygdala's role in triggering automatic and subconscious responses associated with fear and othering. He explains how these psychological processes, though once essential to human survival, now perpetuate division and misunderstanding in a diverse society. Using relatable anecdotes and rigorous research, Stewart shows how deep-seated fears and stereotypes shape our interactions, often in ways we are not consciously aware of.
    Central to the book is the "Last Mile" problem, a concept Stewart uses to describe the final and most challenging steps in the journey toward racial equity. These steps involve not only acknowledging and understanding biases but actively implementing strategies to dismantle them within ourselves and our institutions. Stewart argues that this last mile is fraught with complexities and challenges, as it requires changing longstanding societal structures and confronting uncomfortable truths.
    Part historical review, part psychological exploration, and part sociological study, "The Race Ahead" delves into the origins and perpetuations of racial myths and stereotypes. From the misrepresentations in media and literature that shape public perception to the policies and practices in education and law enforcement that reinforce racial disparities, Stewart leaves no stone unturned.
    "The Race Ahead" is an urgent call to action, demanding a radical shift in both mindset and behavior from all sectors of society. It challenges readers to confront their biases
    Sons of the Arghandab tells the story of the 1-320th Field Artillery "Top Guns" Battalion, 101st Airborne, in the Arghandab Valley, 2010-2011.
    The Arghandab River Valley is known for its lush vegetation from its grape furrows and its pomegranate orchards. It's also known as the birthplace of several Taliban leaders such as Mullah Omar and Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, and was a major crossing route for weapons coming from Pakistan into Kandahar. This hostile environment had already claimed the lives of many seasoned infantrymen. But the Top Guns weren't infantrymen, they were artillerymen, deployed without their usual weapons and with minimal last-minute training, redesignated as "provisional infantrymen." Painstakingly researched by one of the Top Guns and told through the perspectives of the men who survived that terrible year, this is the harrowing story of Alpha, HHB, and Bravo Batteries as they undertook the challenges of an artillery unit charged with an infantry mission in the most hostile killing fields in Afghanistan.
    Qin Dynasty - The Birth of China...
    Rolf Hedger
    The Qin state emerged as a formidable power during the turbulent Warring States period (475–221 BCE), a time when rival kingdoms vied for dominance over China. Originally a small and relatively minor state located in the western regions, Qin gradually expanded its influence through strategic warfare, strong leadership, and administrative reforms. Unlike some of the more culturally refined states in the east, Qin was often perceived as a land of rugged warriors and strict discipline, an image that ultimately worked in its favor.
    One of the key figures in Qin’s rise was Duke Xiao (r. 361–338 BCE), who implemented sweeping reforms with the help of his advisor Shang Yang. Shang Yang, a staunch advocate of Legalism, introduced policies that emphasized merit-based governance, agricultural development, and a powerful military structure. His reforms transformed Qin into a highly efficient and centralized state, strengthening its ability to compete with and eventually surpass its rivals. While Shang Yang's policies greatly benefited Qin, they also led to significant social hardships, as strict laws and severe punishments were imposed to maintain order.
    Militarily, Qin adopted advanced tactics and weaponry, incorporating iron tools and crossbows that gave its armies a technological edge. The state also developed a well-organized conscription system, ensuring a steady supply of disciplined soldiers. Unlike some of the fragmented alliances among other states, Qin’s centralized command structure allowed for swift and decisive military campaigns. Under leaders such as King Huiwen and later King Zhaoxiang, Qin expanded its territory, securing vital strategic locations that set the stage for its final conquest.
