I didn’t even turn my head. I just stared at the wall. “Hi, Daddy.” There was a long pause. That’s the thing about Daddy. He’s good at waiting and listening. I guess it comes with the job. “Your mom sent me up here to see if you felt like talking about it. I guess Vinny kind of stepped on a rake, huh?” “Vance, Daddy,” I sighed. “And yes.” “Are you sure? He always looked like a Vinny to me. I think it was the weaselly look around his eyes. And the way he always stared at Riley.” “Idiot,” I said into my pillow. “Mom wouldn’t touch him with a stick.” “Of course she wouldn’t. Your mother is a very intelligent woman. Just like you.” I could hear the smile in his voice. “I’m sure you would have seen through him, eventually. I mean, if you’re going to pick a football player, Hope, you should at least get a star, not the second-string quarterback.” I hiccupped out a laugh. “That’s better.” He put a hand on my back, rubbing in slow circles. He had done the same thing when I was a little girl and had been sick with a tummy-ache. It worked as good now as it had then. I could feel my body relaxing. All the anger and mad just…leaked away. But it was replaced by…something else. Daddy wasn’t touching me in a sexy way. But it made me feel sexy anyway. Hot. Horny. A soft, sweet ache gathered in my belly, and I held very still, wishing I dared to touch myself. Oh. And by the way, if you haven’t figured this out already, Daddy is just Hot As Hell. He’s like, forty years old now. But his lips are always smiling a little, and his eyes twinkle when he’s in a good mood, so it makes him look way younger than that. He’s maybe six-one, with dark hair, and he’s ripped enough to make you think God sent him to beat the sin out of you if you don’t straighten up and fly right. My girlfriends were always sighing and giggling about him when he wasn’t around, and teasing me for having a DILF as a father. I didn’t mind, mostly. But now…now I really didn’t mind. I fact, I wanted more. Lots more.
