~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
“The French and Indian War,” she said, her voice taking on the tones of the classroom, “Is what we call it in North America. In Europe, it was named the Seven Years’ War, and it was the first true world war. All the major powers of Europe were drawn in. In Europe, it was the French, the Spanish, the Austrian Empire and Russia against Great Britain, Prussia, Portugal and several smaller Germanic states. In North America, it was Great Britain and the colonists against the French and many of their Native American allies. But you might be surprised that the entire war was basically begun by George Washington and for the love of God would you stop staring at my breats?” Heat crept up the back of her neck as she glared at the young man, who had almost immediately fallen into his customary classroom torpor, his vacant gaze fastened on her chest. “I can assure you, there won’t be any questions about my bra size on the final. So you should probably start concentrating on something else, Cody.”
Cody grinned roguishly. “But they’re such pretty breasts, Miss Frazier.”
She stared at him. “You just did not say that.”
“Why not? It’s true.”
Bailey swallowed. She hated men like Cody. Hated the way they automatically assumed that with a little bit of charm, a grin and a wink and a clever line they could have any woman they wanted.
She looked into Cody’s handsome, grinning face, with its shock of wavy black hair, the dimpled chin, the dark blue eyes, and felt her jaw harden. Even the beak of a nose only seemed to heighten his arrogance.
“The state of my chest,” she said, hating the quaver in her voice, “is not your concern.” She dug into her pocket until she felt paper under her fingers. She pulled out the check Cody’s father had given her and placed it, very carefully, on the desk. “Either start treating me with the respect I deserve, as your teacher, an adult, and a woman, or take this back to your father and find someone else to spoon-feed you.”
He made no move to pick up the check. “I’ve got something else in mind.”
“What?”
“I’ve always wanted to know what your body looked like, under those clothes. You should dress nicer, you know. You have the figure for it.
“I get my grades up to a C, in both of your classes, and you let me see you naked.”
Bailey gaped at him. “You cannot be serious!”
He shrugged, broad shoulders rippling. “What do you say, Miss Frazier?" Cody grinned. "They say there's nothing like a little motivation. I get a carrot and you get a sausage."
“You’re not giving anything to me,” she snapped in reply.
“And anyway,” she said dismissively, her mind churning over the numbers. “There’s no way you could get your grade up that high. You’d need something like ninety percent in American History. And even better in World History.”
“Then there’s no risk in taking the bet, is there?”
“And if you don’t get a C? What do I get?” She shouldn’t let him goad her, she knew. But she was on the verge of losing her temper completely. “Seems to me like this bet is pretty one-sided, Cody. I’m taking all the risk and you’re getting all the reward.”
He shrugged, as if the result was already forgone. “Name it.”
    INTRIGUE. TENSION. LOVE AFFAIRS:
    In The Historical Romance series, a set of stand-alone novels, Vivian Stuart builds her compelling narratives around the dramatic lives of sea captains, nurses, surgeons, and members of the aristocracy.
    Stuart takes us back to the societies of the 20th century, drawing on her own experience of places across Australia, India, East Asia, and the Middle East.
    Elizabeth Ogilvie sailed on the maiden voyage of the S.S Viking with rather mixed feelings. It was not that her job, as assistant purser, was likely to set her any problems; nor was she worried at having to keep secret the fact that she was virtually related to the Chairman of the shipping line, who was also on board — travelling incognito, for reasons of his own. What had been so upsetting for Elizabeth was to discover, at the last moment, that the Captain of the ship was to be Hugh Anson, with whom she had once been in love. But although Elizabeth did not know it, there were others on board with even bigger reasons for treating the Captain with hostility. Altogether it looked like being anything but a peaceful voyage!
