At sixty-six years old, Winston Kemper has always been a nonentity. No one notices him. His simple existence barely registers for those who come into contact with him. Some call him feeble-minded. He is a janitor at the local church, a groundskeeper by default, and that’s it. No friends, no family. When he’s done with work, he returns home—a remote, single room apartment located above a garage—and that is where his true work begins.

Winston Kemper is a collector of voices, and his magnum opus—The Butterfly Girls—is a sprawling epic of untapped imagination. It has no single canvas, no particular frame. It is everywhere—scribbled on the walls, the floor, and countless notebooks.

Winston is creating a fantasia which exists in words, images and blood. As part of his ‘art’ he has been murdering forgotten women. Poor souls who slip through the cracks of society, who no one’s looking for. Mothers, sisters, daughters to someone, but no more.

Winston takes their lives, their voices.

But now he can hear them. They whisper to him. They talk of revenge.

Winston Kemper might not believe in ghosts, but he is about to learn they are very real. And they are very, very angry.

A surreal and dreamlike novella about the ghosts of our past and the dangerous, obsessive pursuit of art, from the “true master of horror” (CJ Leede, Maeve Fly).

Ford Village has no railroad station, being on the other side of the river from Porter’s Falls, and accessible only by the ford which gives it its name, and a ferry line. The ferry-boat was waiting when Rebecca Flint got off the train with her bag and lunch basket. When she and her small trunk were safely embarked she sat stiff and straight and calm in the ferry-boat as it shot swiftly and smoothly across stream. There was a horse attached to a light country wagon on board, and he pawed the deck uneasily. His owner stood near, with a wary eye upon him, although he was chewing, with as dully reflective an expression as a cow. Beside Rebecca sat a woman of about her own age, who kept looking at her with furtive curiosity; her husband, short and stout and saturnine, stood near her. Rebecca paid no attention to either of them. She was tall and spare and pale, the type of a spinster, yet with rudimentary lines and expressions of matronhood. She all unconsciously held her shawl, rolled up in a canvas bag, on her left hip, as if it had been a child. She wore a settled frown of dissent at life, but it was the frown of a mother who regarded life as a forward child, rather than as an overwhelming fate. Listen and enjoy.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
The researcher of mysteries visits a haunted house in the state of New York. It is inhabited by infernal forces, brought forth by a once-dwelling Dutch family.
S.T. Joshi calls the prototype of the story "hopeless and illiterate" (H.P. Lovecraft: A Biography), additionally full of unintended comedy (it can be read in H.P. Lovecraft’s Collected Fiction: A Variorum Edition. Revisions and Collaborations). Lovecraft practically rewrote the story, attempting – perhaps unnecessarily – to preserve as many original ideas and sentences as possible.
To make matters worse, HPL had to personally deal with typing the work on a machine (which he hated), as only he could decipher the mercilessly smeared manuscript. Lumley (having no relation to the well-known author Brian Lumley) managed to sell the text to "Weird Tales" for $70. Lovecraft refused to accept part of the payment.

As he peels back the layers of the theatre's story, he discovers the lantern's origin—a relic from the theatre's golden days, reluctant to be parted from the spotlight.Franklin Theatre, now a shadow of its former glory, holds a mysterious adage: the stage light must always burn, a sentinel against the gathering of restless spirits seeking closure. Is it a guardian for the living, a beacon for the spirits of performers long past, or something more sinister, a harbinger of chaos? As Henri, Aggie, and Detra Ann delve deeper into the mystery, they find themselves confronting more than just a ghostly apparition. The journey tests their courage, challenging them to decipher whether the phantom lamp is a protector or a portal to a darker world.
