Synopsis

When one of their own suffers an unspeakable tragedy in an act of terror, four lifelong friends are drawn back to a dangerous past they’ve left behind. Leaving their civilian lives, the friends return to Northern Ireland, where they once served together in the Parachute Regiment during the Troubles, seeking justice in a land they know all too well.
At the same time, British Intelligence has been tracking suspicious movements between Northern Ireland and London, aware of an emerging threat yet unaware of the vigilante force stirring beneath the radar. While each group seeks to bring enemies of the state to justice, their paths dangerously converge, forcing a reckoning with loyalty, revenge and the price of peace. As the stakes rise, the boundaries between right and wrong blur, setting the stage for a showdown that could ignite conflict at home and beyond.
‘Adam’s military experience and research have excelled on to paper creating a story that takes you through decades of dispute and deceit in a forgotten conflict that took so many lives.’- Matthew Hellyer, Ex 22 SAS

Following a car crash, for several seconds Dublin photographer Sean Blake is clinically dead but finds his progress towards the afterworld blocked by a haunting face he only partially recognises. Restored to a miraculous second chance at life – he feels profoundly changed. He is haunted by not knowing who he truly is because this is not the first time he has been given a second life. At six weeks old he was taken from his birth mother, a young girl forced to give him up for adoption. Now he knows that until he unlocks the truth about his origins, he will be a stranger to his wife, to his children and to himself.
Struggling against a wall of official silence and a complex sense of guilt, Sean determines to find his birth mother, embarking on an absorbing journey into archives, memories, dreams and startling confessions.
The first modern novel to address the scandal of Irish Magdalene laundries when it was published in 1994, A Second Life continued to haunt Bolger's imagination. He has never allowed its republication until he felt ready to retell the story in a new and even more compelling way. This reimagined text is therefore neither an old novel nor a new one, but a completely 'renewed' novel, that grows towards a spelling-binding, profoundly moving conclusion.

Dessert with Buddha takes the eccentric, sort-of-Buddhist monk, Volya Rinpoche, and his skeptical, middle-of-the-road brother-in-law, Otto Ringling, on another enlightening road trip filled with meals, humor, social commentary, and good times. On this journey, the couple that traveled from New York to North Dakota in Breakfast with Buddha, Seattle to North Dakota in Lunch with Buddha, and North Dakota to Las Vegas in Dinner with Buddha heads down the Eastern Seaboard from Boston to points south.

Along the way, they meet an array of intriguing characters, tour some famous American sights, and enjoy the kinds of conversations about spirituality that have engrossed hundreds of thousands of listeners from China to Turkey to Croatia, and throughout the United States.

Otto's sister, Cecelia, his daughter Natasha, son Anthony, and niece Shelsa, all have small but important roles in the story, as the famous duo pilots a hybrid pickup along back roads and superhighways, toward the series' climactic finish.

Dessert with Buddha enhances the series the way a delicious dish of ice cream or slice of homemade pie enhances a great meal. Enjoy the trip!
