Stimulants are substances that stimulate the brain. These medications, sometimes known as "uppers," are commonly abused due to their performance-enhancing and euphoric effects. Stimulant abusers typically perceive increased energy and focus.

Caffeine, nicotine, amphetamines, and cocaine are all stimulants. Over-stimulation can result in anxiety, panic, seizures, migraines, stomach pains, hostility, and paranoia in large dosages. Long-term usage of powerful stimulants can have negative consequences.
