Synopsis

Es ist vermutlich selten, daß ein antiker Roman heute noch mitreißen kann, doch Apuleius’ „Amor und Psyche“ gelingt das spielend. Die Geschichte von Amor und Psyche ist eine Episode aus dem Roman „Der goldene Esel“ aus dem 2. nachchristlichen Jahrhundert und wird erzählt von einem alten, dummen und betrunkenen Weib. Nicht ohne Ironie spielt der Autor mit Versatzstücken des Märchens und behandelt auch die antiken Götter recht re-spektlos. „Leser, du wirst deinen Spaß haben!“ heißt es schon zu Beginn des ganzen Buchs – und das gilt auch für den Hörer. „Der Verstand ist befriedigt, das Gemüt erfreut und das Herz entzückt…“, so äußerte sich Goethe über „Amor und Psyche“– und traf ins Schwarze.Ancient novels are rarely able to entertain modern audiences but Apuleius’ “Amor und Psyche” (Cupid and Psyche) is more than capable to do so. The story of Cupid and Psyche is an episode of the ancient novel “Der goldene Esel” (The Golden Donkey) written in the 2nd century and is told by a foolish and drunken woman. The author utilizes a copious amount of irony and treats the ancient gods relatively disrespectful.  “Reader, you will have fun!” it says in the beginning of the book. This applies to the listener as well.
