BOOK DESCRIPTION

A short essay on the music of Pink Floyd.

This is not just a purely biographical text or a general overview of the band from London. This is a work focused on the study of a specific composition, which restricts the scope for one of the most emblematic suite songs of Pink Floyd’s discography: Shine On, You Crazy Diamond.

It is a starting point for a reflection on popular music in general, compared to the music of all time. Through a detailed analysis of the harmonic and melodic aspects of the first 5 parts of the song (Parts I-V), described in a virtual journey way, this work aims to testify to the compositional genius of Pink Floyd (with a whole chapter devoted to guitarist David Gilmour) which is empowered to gather within itself, today, all the key elements of the entire musical stylistic heritage of the last 60 years of popular music worldwide.

Starting with a brief introduction to their artistic life and a historiographical record of the band, the text quickly turns into a work of research and study, based on three aspects: formal, compositional and evocative/emotional.

It is a stimulating basis for study and research. For musicians (especially guitarists), for committed students or already professionals who wish to go deeper in the knowledge of the musical world of these artists, whether they want in a more general way, compare with other analysis of the composition made previously or subsequently. It is a useful tool for study and for a more conscious musical and less purely imitative performance.

A reading, finally, that although containing different complex parts from the viewpoint of the musical technique is also addressed in large extent to the avid reader, although not a musician, allowing him to discover the immense, fascinating and complex "parallel world" that exists behind all that was listened to in life and is listened to every day...

A guide to the basic symbolism of the Celtic Cross, featuring rare illustrations.

Did you know that the basic symbolism of the cross is that of the world axis, or the link between Heaven and Earth? Or that the main feature of the ornamented Celtic Cross, the wheel cross, is not derived from the crucifixion, but from a more ancient symbol the Chi-Rho monogram, which is the name of Christ in the Greek alphabet?

In Symbolism of the Celtic Cross, Derek Bryce traces the pagan-Christian link of the essential symbolism of the axis mundi from standing stones and market crosses (at crossroads and not always “crosses” in form) to the inscribed slabs and freestanding crosses of the Celtic-Christian era. He includes rare illustrations of ornamental Celtic Crosses from such places as Brittany, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Cumbria, Ireland, and Cornwall. Bryce explores esoteric aspects of the symbolism, alchemy, and the wisdom of Hermes.

The piano is a musical instrument that has been around for centuries. It has been the instrument favored by many of the greatest composers who ever lived. They used the piano to create some of the most impressive, expressive, and emotionally-complex pieces of music that are still as beloved by a modern audience as they were when they were first composed. Names like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, Joseph Haydn, Johannes Brahms, Richard Wagner, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky are indelibly etched into the fabric of history, celebrated for the mastery of their craft and ability to conjure music from the depths of their souls like magic. Many people hope to follow in their footsteps by taking up the piano themselves. As a budding pianist, you are in great company.
Beginning your piano-playing journey is as simple as deciding you want to start tickling the ivories. Anyone can sit down behind the keyboard and start hitting notes. The difficulty comes when you actually want to translate what you see on sheet music or hear within your mind into actual music. Some basic skills, techniques, and knowledge can give you a huge boost in the early stages of your career as a pianist. Once you have committed to learning how to play the piano, you will need to learn how to read sheet music, gain a foundation in music theory, and become familiar with the hand T 2 positions and finger exercises necessary to smoothly transition from neophyte to expert.
