Perhaps England’s greatest literary family. To find one brilliant novelist in a family is extremely rare. But two? Three?

The Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily Jane and Anne, together with their brother Patrick, are famed throughout the world. And amongst their many talents was poetry. Of course, being Brontë’s, they were rather good at that too.

These poems are read for you by the very fine Anna Bentinck, David Shaw-Parker, Eve Karpf and Jo Wyatt.

Entries range from Ovid’s Ars amatoria, second-century Gnosticism, and ninth-century Arabian poets, all the way up to the explicit novels published in Paris in the 1960s.As author Harry E. Wedeck explains in his introduction, a culture’s artistic and literary depictions of eroticism reveal a great deal about their way of life. In Dictionary of Erotic Literature, Wedeck draws on this endlessly vast topic to present an illustrative sampling of authors, written works, and terminology that will be of value to any student of literature or cultural history.Dictionary of AphrodisiacsFrom absinthe, almond soup, and Albertus Magnus to yarrow, yohimbine, and Émile Zola, this authoritative reference volume covers knowledge of aphrodisiacs spanning centuries and drawn from literature, spirituality, and ancient science. The Immortal Memory remains the centrepiece of the traditional Burns Supper and although that rite might be seen by some to have had its day, the "Immortal Memory" itself still retains its importance and prestige to Burns lovers all over the world. It is an honour to be invited to present this toast and it is to honour this status and to further respect its subject that Dr Cairney's third book on Burns is devoted to his "Immortal Memory". The extraordinary thing is that the contributors, while dealing with the same man, all appear to see him so differently, but what they all still have in common is a love and admiration for the man and his work. This is the factor that makes Burns unique, that he has the same appeal for so many different kinds of people.

A classic of Scots literature, brilliantly adapted for the stage.
Sunset Song is the first novel in Lewis Grassic Gibbon's Scots Quair trilogy, a rich evocation of growing up on a farm in Scotland in the early-20th century, of being in love and in lust, of getting by as a young mother on your own and of losing your lover in war.
The distinguishing feature of the books - and of this dramatisation - is the use of the rhythms and vocabulary of Scots to tell the story.
This stage version of Sunset Song by Alastair Cording was first performed at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow, in 1991.
'Succeeds marvellously... puts Scotland's own history onto the stage with vigour, precision and skill... a pure piece of theatre' - Guardian
'Does full justice to Grassic Gibbon... a joy and a wrench to watch its blithe unfolding of tragedy and hope' - Scotland on Sunday

Agnes Grey is the daughter of a minister, whose family comes to financial ruin. Desperate to earn money to care for herself, she takes one of the few jobs allowed to respectable women in the early Victorian era, as a governess to the children of the wealthy. In working with two different families, the Bloomfields and the Murrays, she comes to learn about the troubles that face a young woman who must try to rein in unruly, spoiled children for a living, and about the ability of wealth and status to destroy social values. After her father's death, Agnes opens a small school with her mother and finds happiness with a man who loves her for herself. (Summary by Wikipedia)
