Beschreibung

Book written by 12-year-old Vincenzo Pignetti from Italy: Where can they bring the depths of their mind? What happens when a strange curse strikes a normal 12-year-old boy? What of what we perceive is "true" and what is not is it just a nightmare or is it reality? What if things are so expensive and not so different? If in the end one finds nothing but the same, frightening, what? If reality is a nightmare and reality is a nightmare? The author in this journey poses and asks us all the questions, desperately looking for the answer. That story of a normal boy, told by himself in the first person, turns into an agonizing and tormented journey that transports him to a dark and fantastic world populated by the strangest creatures. The protagonist will face trials, pilgrimages, difficulties, research, friends and in an undefined metaphysical grand piano. His will also be an introspective journey in search of his own identity, his uniqueness, his place in the universe. He will fight against the most varied spells and the strangest dark sorceries in a lively direct journey into his emotions and his reactions to the impossible and the unknown. Fantasy can fly in this monstrous world where the reader will then have to draw . Is it the second life that will prevail or will my "normal" life have the upper hand? They will fight each other, they will quiver, they will cry to be released in a continuous coming and going between dream and reality. But where one ends and the other begins, we will not know for sure. Instagram: @vincenzopignetti_real

"Brilliantly-written and highly entertaining, a must read..." The Prairies Book Review
"A charming blend of academic inspection and social commentary that weaves an engrossing personal perspective into a blend of social observation and evolving romance." D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review
Meet Rowena Halley, a former human rights activist turned academic. Rowena thought teaching on US college campuses would be a lot safer than interviewing torture victims in Russia. Boy, was she wrong.
Rowena quickly gets caught up in campus intrigue that threatens to turn deadly. Meanwhile, the life and lover she thought she’d left behind in Moscow might not be so firmly back in the past as she’d believed.
Written by a Russian professor with extensive insider knowledge of the topic, these books take a deep dive into the dark underbelly of American higher education. Serious and satirical in turn, they combine mystery, dark humor, and a touch of romance in a searingly funny examination of contemporary American and Russian society.
*Content warning*: These books contain adult language—and have the one-star reviews to prove it. Worse than that, they have been accused of peddling philosophy and political science. You’ve been warned.

The Tree of Appomattox concludes the series of connected romances dealing with the Civil War, begun in "The Guns of Bull Run," and continued successively through "The Guns of Shiloh," "The Scouts of Stonewall," "The Sword of Antietam," "The Star of Gettysburg," "The Rock of Chickamauga" and "The Shades of the Wilderness" to the present volume. It has been completed at the expense of vast labor, and the author has striven at all times to be correct, wherever facts are involved. So far, at least, no historic detail has been challenged by critic or reader.More than half a century has passed since the Civil War's close. Not many of the actors in it are left. It was one of the most tremendous upheavals in the life of any nation, and it was the greatest of all struggles, until the World War began, but scarcely any trace of partisan rancor or bitterness is left. So, it has become easier to write of it with a sense of fairness and detachment, and the lapse of time has made the perspective clear and sharp. However lacking he may be in other respects, the author perhaps had an advantage in being born, and having grown up in a border state, where sentiment was about equally divided concerning the Civil War. He was surrounded during his early youth by men who fought on one side or the other, and their stories of camp, march and battle were almost a part of the air he breathed. So he hopes that this circumstance has aided him to give a truthful color to the picture of the mighty combat, waged for four such long and terrible years. - Summary by Foreword
