Beschreibung

A uniquely-crafted memoir of the author's early childhood (1967–1972), the third oldest in a working-class Catholic family from the Brandywell in Derry. Written with the authentic voice of a child, this snapshot of his young life unfolds in a series of stories evoking the innocence of childhood, family dynamics and tensions, street friendships and characters, the onset of civil strife, and a family protecting itself from conflict, with CS gas coming in through the door and tracer bullets flying past the windows. The book centres on Tony's father, Patrick – a legend in his son's eyes and a man who struggles to raise a family through bitter years of economic inactivity. It beautifully and movingly portrays the relationship between Tony and the father he adores, yet slightly fears, as events, both within the family and on the streets, unfold and fuse together. The burgeoning chaos of conflict finds its way into his life through the death of a friend under an army truck and more horrifically, directly into the Doherty household. Described as 'a treasure', it draws the reader into a child's world, his innocent view of the harsh reality of life and the horrifying events unfolding around him. It has bags of humour and paints a picture of a lost world of children running wild in play, unsupervised by or worried over by adults. The book is also very moving, to the point of provoking tears at the end.

"The Advice Trap" by Michael Bungay Stanier is a transformative guide that challenges the instinct to offer advice, advocating instead for cultivating curiosity and empowerment in interactions. This audiobook summary condenses Stanier's insights into a concise format, emphasizing the importance of shifting from advice-giving to a coaching-oriented approach for more meaningful conversations.
Stanier introduces the concept of the Advice Trap as a reflex that hinders growth, proposing a more effective method focused on listening and asking better questions to foster solution-oriented dialogues. The book highlights the pitfalls of unsolicited advice and outlines strategies for creating a coaching habit that prioritizes understanding over quick fixes.
Key to Stanier's approach is the identification of conversational traps, or "Foggy-fiers," that obscure real issues, and the adoption of techniques to make people feel safe and open in conversations. It's about changing the habit of a lifetime, a process likened to installing a new operating system rather than merely adding a new app.
For leaders, innovators, or anyone looking to improve their communication and relationship-building skills, this summary provides actionable insights for embarking on a journey toward more impactful interactions. It offers a quick, easy listen packed with practical information to apply immediately, whether you're familiar with Stanier's work or new to his ideas.

Adoniram Judson, a figure of intimidating success and legacy, receives a worthy telling of his story in this memoir by J. Clement.  Clement describes Judson’s thirst for theological knowledge, his understanding and acceptance of salvation, and his journey into and on the mission field.  It is detailed how he listened to the Holy Spirit’s call for him to heed the Great Commission and how, despite all legal and practical obstacles, he secured his way into the field as the first American foreign missionary.  After inspiring the creation of America’s first Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and after struggling through the great pains of requesting aid and support from multiple countries, Judson then faced even greater challenges and dangers after arriving in the country of his calling.  Clement uses extracts from Judson’s own writing to reveal the man, his love for Christ, and the unimaginable sacrifices he suffered for the unreached and lost souls of Burma. This series, published by ONE audiobooks, seeks to produce Classic Christian titles read by well known and loved Christian audiobook narrators.  ONE takes great care to cast these titles with readers who will provide an unmatched listening experience for these important works.Graham Geisler brings his passion to every performance and is considered to be one of the top audiobook narrators in the industry.
