When you can't protect everyone, who will you save?

Iceland, AD 935

Einar Unnsson is destined to be great. When he fights, a frenzy comes upon him. It makes him lethal in battle – so lethal he just defeated the man his own father sent to kill him.

Now, with Einar exiled from his kingdom, his father turns his vengeance on Einar's mother – his escaped former bedslave. Yet Einar is in no position to protect her. He's made an enemy of the powerful King Eirik and must fight for his own life before he can save her.

Einar depends on the Wolf Coats, a band of fearsome, bloodthirsty warriors, but they're convinced the fates have cursed them. Will Einar's skill in battle be enough to save his mother? Or will the Wolf Coats' superstition destroy them all?

A new house, a new school, and new faces. It has been a week since Adira and her family shifted here. A week should be enough for the family to settle, right? But not for Adira. Everything feels different, and the uncertainty of starting life anew is too much of a pressure for her.

No rogue regime ever needed its evildoing professionally reframed more urgently than Greater Berzerkistan, whose president-for-life Trff Bmzklfrpz (pronounced "Ptklm") needs to spin a recent round of ethnic cleansing. Fortunately, the pariah state (and its 50-hole golf course, built overnight by Kurds and Jews) borders Iran, a fact that K Street uberlobbyist Duke is retained to parlay into a major U.S. arms package.Meanwhile, across town, the crumbling of the newspaper industry crushes Rick Redfern's hope of continuing employment. After 35 years at the Washington Post, he is ejected into the blogosphere, where his prose now battles it out with that of 1,186,783,465 rivals, including Roland Hedley, who takes the art of Twittering to a new self-reverential low.Truly, everyone in Doonesburyland is struggling to adapt. While white Washington insiders scramble to acquire some African American friends, longtime black conservative Clyde schemes to score Obama's Blackberry number, Clinton-era Dems are forced to attend the president-elect's "No Drama School," and Jimmy Thudpucker once again reboots his career--this time as a cell phone ring-tone artist. No one ever said change was pretty.

“By playing with notions of collecting and cataloging, this anthology offers a range of investigations into detritus and forgotten ephemera.”—Colin Dickey, coeditor of The Morbid Anatomy Anthology   The modern age is no stranger to the cabinet of curiosities, the freak show, or a drawer full of odds and ends. These collections of oddities engagingly work against the rationality and order of the conventional archive found in a university, a corporation, or a governmental holding. In form, methodology, and content, The Year’s Work in the Oddball Archive offers a counterargument to a more reasoned form of storing and recording the avant-garde (or the post-avant-garde), the perverse, the off, the bent, the absurd, the quirky, the weird, and the queer. To do so, it positions itself within the history of mirabilia launched by curiosity cabinets starting in the mid-fifteenth century and continuing to the present day. These archives (or are they counter-archives?) are located in unexpected places—the doorways of Katrina homes, the cavity of a cow, the remnants of extinct animals, an Internet site—and they offer up “alternate modes of knowing” to the traditional archive. “An unruly―and much-needed―model for how to do the archive differently.”—Scott Herring, author of The Hoarders: Material Deviance in Modern American Culture “It was a pleasure to read through this collection, and I suspect some of the essays, if not the entire book, will find itself on the syllabus for my Archive and Ephemera graduate course.”—Museum Anthropology Review “A finely wrought collection of curiosities . . . A vital intervention into how we talk about the stuff that surrounds us.”—Colin Dickey, coeditor of The Morbid Anatomy Anthology

Do humans have the best eyesight? No.
Do humans have the best hearing? No.
Are humans the fastest runners? No.
Are humans the best swimmers? No.
    Can humans fly? No.
This body of ours, is it a good design?
    Or could it be better?
Not Very Intelligent Design takes an irreverent look at the human body, analyzes every part of it, and awards each part a mark out of ten.
Eyes that go blurry at middle age? Out of ten? Three? Throats that can easily cause death by choking? Seriously?
Not Very Intelligent Design is written in a tone that's light-hearted and sometimes mocking which can be upsetting to those who believe in creationism. On the other hand, if you're open-minded enough to have a good laugh at the world around you, including your own body, there's a pretty good chance you'll enjoy it.
    Some Amazon reviews -
"An extremely observant and sometimes laugh out loud book that was thoroughly enjoyable! Keep writing sir and I will keep reading. Your wit, subtle, and silly, is absolutely delightful! I will never view my body parts the same way...thanks?"
"This book is extremely funny, but it does get the point across: We were either designed by natural selection or a complete idiot."
"Laughed out loud in many places and nodded in complete agreement throughout. Witty, engaging writing that makes a strong case for a Not Very Intelligent Design(er)."
"Every creationist should read this for some insight into how absurd the notion of intelligent design really is. It might also be worthwhile reading for Richard Dawkins whose excellent but meandering tomes could benefit from a dash more levity. Seriously, if humans were the result of intelligent design we would be very different creatures and Ingman makes it very clear why."
