Marie, dominated the Sochi Olympic curling events, setting records and capturing the hearts of millions of Canadians. With exclusive interviews and in-depth profiles, Ice Gold delves into each player’s beginnings in the sport, the formation of the teams, their road to the Olympics, and their gold-medal triumphs.Learn how Jennifer Jones and Jill Officer became an inseparable tandem after meeting at the Highlander Curling Club; how two brothers, E.J. and Ryan Harnden, and their cousin, Brad Jacobs, went from aspiring hockey players to gold-medal curlers; and how Mike Babcock’s inspiring words helped the men’s curling team out of their early Olympic slump.

At age forty-seven, a mother of two, Debbie Moderow was not your average musher in the Iditarod, but that's where she found herself when, less than 200 miles from the finish line, her dogs decided they didn't want to run anymore. After all her preparation, after all the careful management of her team, and after their running so well for over a week, the huskies balked. But the sting of not completing the race after coming so far was nothing compared to the disappointment Moderow felt in having lost touch with her dogs. Fast into the Night is the gripping story of Moderow's journeys along the Iditarod trail with her team of spunky huskies: Taiga and Su, Piney and Creek, Nacho and Zeppy, Juliet and the headstrong leader, Kanga. The first failed attempt crushed Moderow's confidence, but after reconnecting with her dogs she returned and ventured again to Nome, pushing through injuries, hallucinations, epic storms, flipped sleds, and clashing personalities, both human and canine. And she prevailed.

This is the true story of the most remarkable horse in history. In 1678, a beautiful mahogany bay Karaman colt is foaled in a stable on a feudal landholding in the Balkans. Yet this is no ordinary colt: this is a colt with a destiny.
He is destined to become the magnificent Byerley Turk, the first Foundation Sire of the thoroughbred line. From his early days the young horse is hard-schooled in the disciplines of war. In 1683, in diamond and ruby-studded harness in the ranks of the glittering Ottoman sipahi, he fights as a charger at the Siege of Vienna.
Seized as an exotic prize from the Siege of Buda three years later, he is ridden across Europe to the Royal Barracks of King James II in Hounslow, England, where he is acquired in 1687 by Captain Robert Byerley. In 1690, as a charger in the ranks of King William's army, he faces sabre and cannon at the Battle of the Boyne, but not before romping past the winning post at Downroyal and snatching the King's Plate.
After two years of bitter campaigning in Ireland he is shipped back to England, where his owner, now Colonel of his regiment, retires him to Goldsborough Hall in Yorkshire.
Here the horse is put to Stud and begins a long well-earned retirement. He died at the age of 25 in 1703.
No stone marks his grave. Until now his story has never been told. But on racecourses throughout the world today, his blood thunders on.

”If only an honest book can live, as Emerson said, then Growing Up Hockey is immortal. It’s the story of everyone who plays or cares about the game. It’s warm reading for a cold night. Or any night.” — Jack Falla, author of Home Ice

Many of us grew up scoring a thousand glorious NHL goals in our minds, and on our streets and corner rinks. We won the Stanley Cup over and over in our imaginations. What happened to those childhood heroics? We packed them in a box with our hockey cards and forgot them. Growing Up Hockey uses the heartwarming and comical exploits of a house-league third-liner to prompt us to re-live our memories of hockey glory. It shows that for those who love it, the game is never far away. Bobby Hull, Frank Mahovlich, Wayne Gretzky they’re all here. But equally large are the neighbourhood rink bullies, the Pee Wee league super-starts and the obsessed NHL aficionados. Together, they create a hockey myth as grand as ever existed and as unique as each of us.
