Beschreibung

"Gitanjali" is a collection of poems by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. The English Gitanjali or Song Offerings is a collection of Tagore's own English translations of his Bengali poems. These poems highlight the many realizations author had under the crimson sky, casting his forlorn eye and pensive heart. Tagore received the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for this book.
"Fruit-Gathering" is a collection of poems and a sequel to Gitanjali. In it, Tagore meditates simply and directly on the interplay between the individual and the surroundings.
"My Reminiscences" is an autobiography of the great Bengali poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore.

    The algorithm
    of my own life, faded
    and spidery,
    is written,
    not keyed in.
From bombsites used as childhood playgrounds to lockdown FaceTime calls, Kate Foley looks back on almost nine decades of life – a life characterised by curiosity, resistance and a strong connection with the natural world.
Appreciation and concern for the planet runs through this frank and moving collection, which muses on the notions of faith and belief, ultimately rejecting both Whitehall politics and traditional religion as inadequate to deal with environmental crisis.
Simultaneously nostalgic and highly concerned with the future, Kate Foley's candid reminiscence and simple use of language draw us softly into consideration of life's big questions: What's it all for? How will we be remembered?
Will it build again, our earth?

A dark and compelling vision of a world infected by violence.
A seemingly normal detention in a seemingly normal modern-day comprehensive school. A teacher valiantly battles on with biology revision. She believes only education will set her pupils free. For outside the classroom, the world is in the middle of a long and bloody war.
Despite her best efforts, the tide of conflict is soon lapping at the school gates and, one by one, pupils and teacher are pulled under as their hopes and dreams float away from them.
'Sam Holcroft is uncompromising in her ideas and deeply ambitious for the power of theatre. It's a long time since a young writer has thrilled me this much' - Vicky Featherstone, director of the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Cockroach
'hauntingly powerful... a playwright brave enough to do battle with the big ideas' - Guardian

In England summer evenings remind us of the falling of the light, of village greens and the thump of willow on leather. In winter, evenings are dark, unlit and a time to be inside.
The evening light, of twilight, of sunset, has another name in the movie business. They call it ‘magic hour’ and sometimes it is just that. The heavy, golden light suffuses everything with a glow and fullness that gladdens our hearts and delights our eyes.
For our poets this was a time of mystery and wonder; between the bright day and the canopy of stars that heralded sleep.
This volume comes to you from Portable Poetry, a specialized imprint from Deadtree Publishing. Our range is large and growing and covers single poets, themes, and many compilations.
