The “sexy . . . breathtaking . . . wonderfully original” mystery in which a murderer returns from the dead—and is hell-bent on killing again (Jane Feather, New York Times–bestselling author of An Unsuitable Bride).   A stridently independent woman in sixteenth-century London, Clio Thornton’s interest in solving mysteries has put her at odds with her wealthy family. But given her coterie of unorthodox friends—and her pet monkey, Toast—that is nothing new.   So, when she stumbles upon a grisly murder, she’s determined to investigate, even when all of her discoveries point to an impossible killer: the Vampire of London, vanquished three years ago by Viscount Miles Loredan—her cousin’s husband-to-be.   Miles finds her theories impossible to believe. But intrigued by her passion and her beauty, Miles agrees to hire her and support her investigation. What starts as a professional relationship soon becomes personal—and dangerous. Not only because Miles is betrothed to another woman—but because Clio has become the Vampire’s next target . . .   For lovers of puzzling mysteries, romantic histories, or just good old-fashioned sleuthing, this is a fast, fun read from “a writer to watch” (Publishers Weekly).

In the small gnomish village of Little Thoracia, a young bard tries to become the greatest detective in all of Aethrofell. His adventures are chronicled by his good friend Latswin Gilshire. In the first five stories, Sir Locke the Gnome thwarts an extortionist, solves an untimely death, finds a stolen crown, catches a murderer, and saves himself from being wrongfully imprisoned. All of this leads to the most difficult case in which he is the target of unknown forces trying to destroy his peaceful world.
If you like Holmesian mysteries or Sword & Sorcery fantasies, you'll enjoy these stories. If you are one of the truly enlightened and enjoy both, you will love this book. Feifar's excellent reading brings the many characters, and the entire land of Aethrofell, to vivid life.

Two leading London barristers--Queen's Counsels--disappear during a murder trial, one for the prosecution and one for the defense. Junior defense barrister Charles Dallas searches for his two colleagues, but they are about to undergo the most bizarre of trials themselves.

English novelist and poet John Oxenham (November 12, 1852 - January 28, 1941) was born William Arthur Dunkerley in Manchester, England, in 1852. His entry into the literary world was not as a writer but as a publisher; with several partners he started the publication "The Idler", and later on the weekly "To-Day". He traveled extensively in Europe, Canada and the US as part of his publishing duties, but eventually decided he wanted to be a writer more than he did a publisher, and in 1913 he finished "Bees in Amber". However, his publisher would not spend a penny promoting it, and even asked that he limit the book to no more than 200 copies, as they knew they could not sell that many. He eventually printed the book at his own expense; it wound up selling almost 300,000 copies. During World War I he self-published several volumes of poetry, and together they sold over a million copies. He also wrote a song called "Hymn for the Men at the Front" that eventually sold more than 8,000,000 copies. Altogether he has published more than 40 novels, poetry books and essays.
