Beschreibung

Wire Jewelry Photo Gallery is a book of jewelry photos of my unique handmade jewelry designs. There is a bit of instruction, but not much. Mostly, I just wanted to show you the designs to give you some ideas for your own work.

My professional writing career began in 1980 with the publication of Jean’s Arizona Fan Palm, cutting directions for a 3.2 carat citrine (you can see it in the Handcrafted Jewelry Photo Gallery book in this Kick-Start Creativity series), in the January issue of the Lapidary Journal Gem Cutting Magazine. Many years later my original jewelry designs with step-by-step instructions were being published in various international trade magazines -- e.g. Jewelry Artist, Step-by-Step Beads, Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry, and Jewelry Arts & Lapidary Journal.

“There isn’t a single soup . . . that doesn’t sound delectable . . . quite impressive considering none of [the] recipes contains more than three grams of fat.” —Publishers Weekly

There is no better way to tap into today’s soup craze than with this glorious cookbook, filled with more than 100 deliciously low-fat soup recipes. Author Judith Barrett lost pounds and inches using these mouthwatering recipes, each of which contains less than three grams of fat per serving. Cutting the fat posed no bar to creating soups with incredible flavor—Black Mushroom and Spinach Wonton Soup and Creamy Fennel Soup with Shrimp both contain only one gram of fat.

Barrett offers soups to be savored for every season. In the fall, Creamy Carrot Soup or Roasted Beet Borscht will delight you. Winter Squash Soup with Thyme or Real Gumbo with Okra and Chicken is sure to take the edge off the cold during the snowy months. Come springtime, there is Vidalia Onion Soup or Arugula Vichyssoise, and to beat the summertime heat, make a batch of Cool Cucumber and Yogurt Soup or Creamy Tomato Bisque with Shallots and Tarragon.

Soups “from the sea,” like Mediterranean Fish Stew and New York Red Clam Chowder, will leave a briny tingle on your palate. If it’s legumes you crave, try: Lentil and Portobello Mushroom Soup or Miami Black Bean Soup. Or experiment with the variety of international soup recipes that are offered, from Chinese Cabbage Soup with Cellophane Noodles to Italian Minestra of Swiss Chard and Rice.

The actor, writer, and director combines amusing stories about his dad with his own experiences raising two daughters with his wife, Melissa McCarthy.

Though he’s best known for his appearances in the movie Enough Said, as well as his hilarious role as Air Marshall Jon in Bridesmaids, Ben Falcone isn’t a big shot movie star director at home. There, he’s just dad. In this winning collection of stories, Ben shares his funny and poignant adventures as the husband of Melissa McCarthy, and the father of their two young daughters. He also shares tales from his own childhood in Southern Illinois, and life with his father—an outspoken, brilliant, but unconventional man with a big heart and a somewhat casual approach to employment named Steve Falcone.

Ben is just an ordinary dad who has his share of fights with other parents blocking his view with their expensive electronic devices at school performances. Navigating the complicated role of being the only male in a house full of women, he finds himself growing more and more concerned as he sounds more and more like his dad. While Steve Falcone may not have been the briefcase and gray flannel suit type, he taught Ben priceless lessons about what matters most in life. A supportive, creative, and downright funny dad, Steve made sure his sons’ lives were never dull—a sense of adventure that carries through this warm, sometimes hilarious, and poignant memoir.

“Containing self-help advice as well as threads of memoir and humor, Ben Falcone’s first book, Being a Dad Is Weird, is an absolute must-read.” —Manhattan Book Review
