Beschreibung

At the beginning of the story, walking along an incline, some of Tolstoy’s characters lie, commit robberies and even killings. The author allows his heroes to experience feelings of satisfaction and complete impunity, after they have committed terrible atrocities. Pelageyushkin, going to the massacres, is content with one own impunity. Tolstoy conducts his heroes in hellish circles: all terrible crimes are uncovered. The punishment for the crime hangs with a „Damocles sword” over the heads of Tolstoy literary characters. It is also interesting that the writer selects his heroes from each social group.

A rogue knight vows to avenge the Welsh people and reclaim his birthright by seizing the lord of Rosecliffe’s castle—and his beautiful daughter    When she refuses to accompany her family to London for the new king’s coronation—and to accept an unwelcome offer of marriage—Isolde FitzHugh knows she’s merely putting off the inevitable. But for now the eldest daughter of a Welsh patriot and an English nobleman revels in her temporary freedom. In the village, she spies a bearded, dark-haired stranger and feels an unexpected surge of desire. But the man who seduces her in the dead of night is no wandering minstrel. He is her family’s most treacherous foe.   Banished from his homeland and forced to learn the hated English ways, Rhys ap Owain has waited twenty years to set foot on Welsh soil again. Taking the innocence of his enemy’s daughter will strike a mortal blow to the traitorous FitzHughs and be the first step toward avenging his murdered father. Isolde will be the instrument of his retribution, his hostage in the kingdom that was stolen from his people—but he never dreams that she will awaken within him a love more powerful than hate.  The Mistress of Rosecliffe is the 3rd book in the Rosecliffe Trilogy, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, the second and final novel by Anne Brontë, is concerned with the story of a woman who leaves her abusive, dissolute husband, and who must then support herself and her young son. Originally published in June of 1848, it challenged the prevailing morals of the time; a critic went so far as to pronounce it "utterly unfit to be put into the hands of girls." It is considered to be one of the first feminist novels. (Summary from Wikipedia)

There is more than one way to fight a war...An extraordinary story of grit, love and loss, based on the true history and real experiences of Australian nurses in World War 1.

'Heart-achingly raw yet filled with the beauty of the human spirit, this novel is a triumph that will linger in the heart and psyche.' Karen Brooks, author of The Good Wife of Bath
In 1915, as World War 1 rages in Europe and the numbers of dead and injured continue to grow, Australian nurse, Sister Cora Barker, leaves her home in Australia for England, determined to use her skills for King and country. When she arrives at Harefield House - donated to the Australian Army by its expatriate Australian owners - she helps transform it into a hospital that is also a little piece of home for recuperating Australian soldiers.
As the months pass, her mission to save diggers lives becomes more urgent as the darkest months of the war see injured soldiers from the battlefields of France and Belgium flood into Harefield in the thousands. When the hospital sends out a desperate call for help, a quiet young seamstress from the village, Jessie Chester, steps up as a volunteer. At the hospital she meets Private Bert Mott, a recovering Australian soldier, but the looming threat of his return to the Front hangs over them. Could her first love be her first heartbreak?
Cora's and Jessie's futures, their hearts and their lives hang in the balance as the never-ending wave of injured and dying soldiers threatens to overwhelm the hospital and the hopes of a nation rest on a knife edge. The nurses war is a war against despair and death, fought with science and love rather than mustard gas and fear - but can they possibly win it? And what will be the cost?
