'The Scornful Lady' is a Jacobean era stage play, a comedy written by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher. It was one of the pair's most popular, often revived, and frequently reprinted works.
Upon his return home from the battlefields of Europe in 1918, Col Blackwood, a UK Army infantry officer, is reunited with his family on Christmas Eve after nearly four years away. In the midst of telling his children a bedtime story, we learn of Artaban, a Magi priest, and the fourth wise man to present gifts to the newborn King. Sara Teasdale was an American lyric poet. She was born Sara Trevor Teasdale in St. Louis, Missouri, and used the name Sara Teasdale Filsinger after her marriage in 1914.Teasdale's first poem was published in Reedy's Mirror, a local newspaper, in 1907.
