Beschreibung

Far into the future, Hartstein's graduation present from his grandparents was a wonderful trip…into the past. He had a long future in the doughnut industry to look forward to but this trip was the icing on the cake. It had been a long time since that first experiment in time travel was successfully pulled off, although not without its flaws. Now, in the future, time travel was a lucrative tourist industry. But the time travel industry was keeping one little fact to itself: two percent never came back. This cover-up was the work of the Agency. The Agency knew what others did not: that the past wasn't really the past but a complicated dynamic of individual perceptions of what the past might have been. The past isn't real and reality becomes a state of mind. While selling their particular brand of escapist entertainment and vacation packages, the Agency didn't bother to tell its clients or the populace in general that a war was going on--a time war. The Agency was spending its time in a neck-and-neck battle with the Temporary Underground. The battlefield was none other than the space-time continuum, the weapons were time-shifts and theoretical mathematics. Hartstein had no idea what his trip would be or where it would take him.

    Would Everybody Please Stop? -...

    Jenny Allen

In Would Everybody Please Stop?—a collection of first-person essays and humor pieces—Jenny Allen asks the tough questions: Why do people say "it is what it is"? What's the point of fat-free half-and-half? Why don't the women detectives on TV carry purses, and where are we supposed to think they keep all their stuff? And haven't we heard enough about memes?
Reporting from the potholes midway through life's journey, Allen addresses these and other more serious matters, like the rude awakenings of being single after 25 years, of mothering a teenager, and of living with a serious illness. She also discusses life's everyday trials, like the horrors of attempting a crafts project, the anxieties of being a houseguest, and the ever-changing rules of recycling.
Allen is a performer at heart — her one-woman show I Got Sick Then I Got Better premiered in 2009, and she regularly acts in other plays — and she brings that same spirit to these 35 short essays, which sound like the work of a female Dave Barry. Writing on places both real (like a swag den for celebrities at Sundance and the parking lot at L.L. Bean's flagship store) and imaginary (a Buddhist retreat attended by Martha Stewart, Elmer Fudd's psychotherapy appointment), Allen's wit and compassion give a fresh slant on the vicissitudes of day-to-day and not so day-to-day life.A Macmillan Audio production.

From the comic genius behind Curb Your Enthusiasm—a play with “a perfect second-act twist, and a solid last-minute kicker” (Vulture).   Fish in the Dark marked Seinfeld co-creator Larry David’s playwriting debut, his Broadway debut—and his first time acting on stage since eighth grade. David starred as Norman Drexel, a man in his fifties who is average in most respects, except for his hyperactive libido. As Norman, his more successful brother Arthur, their elderly mother, and a host of other characters try to navigate the death of a loved one, old acquaintances and unsettled arguments resurface—with hilarious consequences.

After purchasing a new electric car to avoid catching the coronavirus on mass transit, Charles St. Anthony needed to come up with some money fast. Hoping to rake in some big tips, Charles decided to do Postmates in the areas the rich and famous play.
In this humorous short read, Charles explores Beverly Hills and the neighboring areas of Los Angeles using food delivery apps. He takes you down the rabbit hole of Beverly History, and introduces affordable things to eat in America's most glamorous zip code: 90210! Charles serves up "Beverly Hills on a Budget" by introducing economical (but delicious) food he discovered in Beverly Hills—foods that taste expensive but come at prices everyone can enjoy.
After completing more than 500 deliveries via Postmates, DoorDash, and Uber Eats you'll learn what people in LA—a city known for health and fitness—truly eat. The answer might be greasier than you're expecting! Also, Charles answers pressing questions such as what was the most popular type of Taco Bell sauce packet, what food truck has the most devoted fan base, and what was the total number of French fries ordered in his 500+ deliveries. It's a feel-good, laugh out loud short read that shows how food delivery apps offered a path to dignity to people who needed to eat and people who struggled to make money in the pandemic era.
"Quirky, insightful and witty." Jack Scott (Author), Perking the Pansies
    Contains humor with adult language.
