“F. P. Dorchak writes like a hot-rodder heading toward a brick wall. Edge of your seat entertainment! I pondered over each of these stories long after I'd finished reading them. That's what great writing is all about!”

Edgar Allan Poe was one of the most important and influential American writers of the 19th century. The book describes a tragic story involving a young maiden of 'the rarest beauty'. She loved and wedded an eccentric painter who cared more about his work than anything else in the world, including his wife. The painter eventually asked his wife to sit for him, and she obediently consented, sitting "meekly for many weeks" in his turret chamber. The painter worked so diligently at his task that he did not recognize his wife's fading health, as she, being a loving wife, continually 'smiled on and still on, uncomplainingly'. As the painter neared the end of his work, he let no one enter the turret chamber and rarely took his eyes off the canvas, even to watch his wife. After 'many weeks had passed', he finally finished his work.

A malevolent spirit occupies St. Louis’s Quint Building, and the team sent in to combat it disappears after their leader is driven to suicide. The BSI has no choice but to send in Kalevi Hakala and his team to solve the problem. Tillinghast creates an electronic device that emits a resonance wave, which stimulates an affected person’s pineal gland, thereby allowing them to perceive planes of existence outside the scope of accepted reality.

I had no idea how much I wanted to take Purgatory's throne and rule Hell with the Seven Sinners. Too bad the most notorious devil would prefer to rule alone.
If only that was the worst of it. My soulmate’s health declines, and I must kill him to guide his soul to Hell and help him take his throne. How can I murder the one who is responsible for my angel-kissed soul? I don’t have a choice, though. If I fail to do it, Hell will never rise, and someone needs to put Lucian in his place before he destroys everything. Kase, Dante, Micah, and Andre claim it needs to be me. I guess if I can break some angels, a devil shouldn’t be a problem, right? At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.
As my tasks change and I have to rearrange my priorities, I need to find out what’s worth fighting for in life and if in the end, I can handle whatever Heaven and Hell throw at me. If I don’t, my soul will never belong to me again.
