Beschreibung

Four classic stories by the New York Times–bestselling grandmaster of mystery, each paired with an incisive new introduction.   A thriller writer is embroiled in a real-life whodunit when a friend drops dead with her hatpin impaled in his back. The violation of a sealed West Bank tomb, its rock walls intact, provides a Thebes investigator with a mystifying conundrum. Two sisters take shelter in a shuttered old house at the end of a country road…only to discover they’re not alone. And the author’s most beloved characters, Amelia Peabody and Radcliff Emerson, make an appearance in a newly uncovered tale with a witty nod to Sherlock Holmes.   Settle in with this quartet of short stories—now available for the first time in a single volume—from one of the most popular mystery writers of all time. The Locked Tomb Mystery and Other Stories features a preface and introductions to each story by mystery authors Tasha Alexander, Juliet Blackwell, and Daniel Stashower, and Egyptologist Salima Ikram.

Bestselling author Walter Mosley has proven himself a master of narrative tension, both with his extraordinary fiction and gripping writing for television. The Awkward Black Man collects seventeen of Mosley's most accomplished short stories to showcase the full range of his remarkable talent.Mosley presents distinct characters as they struggle to move through the world in each of these stories—heroes who are awkward, nerdy, self-defeating, self-involved, and, on the whole, odd. He overturns the stereotypes that corral black male characters and paints a subtle, powerful portrait of each of these unique individuals. In "The Good News Is," a man's insecurity about his weight gives way to a serious illness and the intense loneliness that accompanies it. Deeply vulnerable, he allows himself to be taken advantage of in return for a little human comfort in a raw display of true need. "Pet Fly," previously published in the New Yorker, follows a man working as a mailroom clerk for a big company—a solitary job for which he is overqualified—and the unforeseen repercussions he endures when he attempts to forge a connection beyond the one he has with the fly buzzing around his apartment. And "Almost Alyce" chronicles failed loves, family loss, alcoholism, and a Zen approach to the art of begging that proves surprisingly effective.

Getting what you want is success, and success is an effect, coming from the application of cause. Success is essentially the same in all cases. The difference is in the things the successful people want, but not in the success. Success is essentially the same, whether it results in the attainment of health, wealth, development or position. Success is attainment, without regard to the things attained. And it is a law in nature that like causes always produce like effects. Therefore, since success is the same in all cases, the cause of success must be the same in all cases. Wallace D. Wattles popularized the New Thought principles

The idea of this book struck me as I was reading the daily newspapers. I found a column in which amazing real life incidents were stated - such as a man living in an unusual place, jewelry mysteriously disappearing, miracles taking place and many other strange yet interesting things. I liked these incidents so much that I couldn’t stop thinking about the various possibilities in which they would lead to and so I started to jolt them into words. I was surprised as I completed my first story within an hour, though fast it was only a couple of hundred words and so I challenged myself to write 15 such very short stories. These very short stories are filled with adventure, action, irony, tragedy and humor. Each story has its own world, language and shows the readers that this is the way of life and how it should be cherished. Toughest part was to give a name to this collection of very short stories, since they are so varied and could not be clubbed or categorized, frankly speaking I am not sure even now. The longest one among the collection stood out so I suggested calling the book by its name “An Evening with Lady Luck” I would like to thank my parents and my mentor Mr. Curtis Peter Van Gorder for making this audio book materialize in your hands; I hope this audio book helps you as it has helped me.----- Shreyans Ranjalkar
