Beschreibung

Mad Forest explores the reactions of ordinary people to confused events, focusing in particular on two families. What emerges is the dreadful damage done to people's lives by repression and the painful difficulties of lasting change.
Caryl Churchill's play about the Romanian revolution was written after she, the director and a group of students from London's Central School of Speech and Drama went to Romania to work with acting students there. The play was first performed in 1990, only three months after their return.

A Persian poet’s masterpiece While better known in his time for his mathematical and astronomical works, eleventh-century Persian philosopher and poet Omar Khayyam is best known today for his romantic poetry collected in the Rubaiyat. This selection presents 365 of the approximately 1,000 quatrains, translated from the original Persian. Khayyam’s poetry draws readers in with its lush imagery and timeless observations on the human experience and the metaphysical mysteries of our world. As wise and intriguing as they are beautifully crafted, Khayyam’s verse has inspired much Western art and literature.

From the National Book Award-nominated author of Dreaming in Cuban, “breathtakingly beautiful” poems about her troubled, self-destructive brother (The Austin Chronicle).   “[A] brave and moving tribute to a brother gone astray; with skill, unflinching honesty, and redemptive compassion, Cristina García tracks his marvelous, complex, and errant life…These poems are the beautiful, painful, astonishing result of a journey to hell and back in search of the brother she loves. With this first book of poems, García, one of our best novelists and storytellers, proves herself to be a talented poet as well.”—Julia Alvarez, author of Saving the World   “Garcia’s spare language lucidly invokes the brother’s insistence on remaining a wreck and the speaker’s helplessness to stop him.”—The Adirondack Review

On 15 October 2011 Occupy London makes camp outside St Paul's Cathedral. On 21 October 2011 a building that had kept open through floods, the Blitz and terrorist threats closes its doors. On 28 October City of London initiates legal action against Occupy to begin removing them from outside the Cathedral...
Steve Waters' play is a fictional account of these events, set in the heart of a very British crisis - a crisis of conscience, a crisis of authority and a crisis of faith.
Temple was premiered at the Donmar Warehouse, London, in May 2015 in a production starring Simon Russell Beale, directed by Howard Davies.
'A triumph... [Goes] behind the head-lines, and closed ecclesiastical doors, to produce a riveting drama that unpicks the institutional and psychological turmoil the [Occupy London] saga caused' - Daily Telegraph
'Waters takes real figures and real events and transforms them into a fictional account that plays like High Noon... 90 minutes of barbed politesse that never lets up... rich and ambiguous and funny and fundamental... quietly stunning... a marvellous show' - The Times

A Dangerous Prophet for Dangerous Times!
    (Author's Narration)
Israel. 9th-century BC. Jezebel has killed the true prophets of the Lord, and Elijah must flee her wrath.
But he is not alone. Embraced by a shapeshifting goddess, counseled by a great angel, he is empowered to call down fire from Heaven!
In the spirit of Dante, Shakespeare, and Homer, this epic poem relives the stunning miracles of the great prophet as described in the Old Testament—fed by ravens, raising the dead, commanding the rain, calling down fire from Heaven, outrunning horses, ascending to Heaven.
But along with all this, the author weaves a rich thread of mythological influences: shapeshifting goddesses, shamanic journeys, dueling dragons, Queen Jezebel's seductions, and dissension in the ranks of the royal bodyguard.
Saucy yet sacred, this timeless tale takes wing in the poet's pen, the poet's voice!
"Fun, interesting, and entertaining, with elements of a heroic quest, pure fantasy, and sexy romance.”
    Karen Siddall
"The telling was riveting, and you don’t need to know the story ahead of time to be moved by it.”
    Kit Donner
“LeRoy has a great talent for writing an epic poem, and his hypnotic voice lends grandly to the narration of the story.”
Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews, Top 10 Books of 2018
"An epic tale, Biblically based, but with considerable writer’s freedom that makes the book wholly entertaining."
    San Francisco Review of Books

As he did for Black women in Black Roses, Harold Green III, poet and founder of the music collective Flowers for the Living, now honors the Black men he most admires—groundbreakers including Tyler Perry, Barry Jenkins, Billy Porter, Chance the Rapper, LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick, and John Legend—and celebrates their achievements which are transforming lives and making history.
Black men are changing society and the world through mastery, innovation, and inspiration at a pace never seen before. In awe of the myriad ways in which Black men are using their vision and power to remake culture and society, spoken word artist Harold Green began writing odes recognizing the extraordinary accomplishments of a series of Black men, which he shared on his Instagram account—tributes that went viral and became a social media sensation. Black Oak brings together many of these popular odes with original works written for this collection.
Divided into five sections—bravehearts, champions, dreamers, guardians, and humanitarians—Black Oak features iconic men who are spearheading movements, fighting for equality, challenging the status quo, embracing fatherhood, providing a transformative model of masculinity for our children, inspiring a new generation of creators, and more. Through these beautifully written verses, Harold does not simply place the Black men in this book on a pedestal, he transcends even the most positive stereotypes to view these men and their accomplishments in a new light, and creates meaningful connections between these beloved figures and the lives and experiences of readers of all backgrounds.
Black Oak includes odes to Barry Jenkins, Big K.R.I.T, Billy Porter, Black Thought, Chance the Rapper, Charles Booker, Colin Kaepernick, Dwyane Wade, Edmund Graham III, Eric Hale, Excell Hardy Jr., Harold Green III, Harold Green Jr., Harold Green Sr., Hebru Brantley, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Jamaal Bowman, Jason Reynolds, Jericho Brown, John Legend, Kehinde Wiley, Kerry James Marshall, Kevin Fredricks, Killer Mike, Kyler Broadus, LeBron James, Mahershala Ali, Marc Lamont Hill, Matthew Cherry, Orlando Cooper, Pharrell, Rev.
