The film, television, and comedy legend tells the hilarious and moving story of how tough love, and a sense of humor made him the man he is today
By the tender age of five, Bernie Mac had found his calling: making others laugh. He has since become the star and cocreator of Fox’s hit sitcom The Bernie Mac Show; a stand-up legend; and a hit movie star in Head of State and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Now this amazing comedian delves deep down inside to retell the poignant and hilarious story of his childhood and the people who helped shape him into the comedian—and the strong and self-reliant man—he is today.
When young Bernie Mac lost his beloved mother to breast cancer, and faced an astounding number of other hardships, he remembered the “Mac-isms” she taught him: You have to meet all of the challenges, big and small. Because how you start is how you finish. If you want a helping hand, look at the end of your arm. These tough-love lessons gave him an inner strength that led him to choose hope over despair, and to follow his dreams. Maybe You Never Cry Again is a powerful testament to how a mother’s love made everything possible for Bernie Mac by teaching him to believe in himself.

"The name of E. M. Bounds is familiar to anyone who has an interest in prayer. In a world awash in books that jam the isles of bookstores everywhere, few will even begin to survive the lifetime of the authors, but that is not true of E. M. Bounds. After a century, many of his books are still in print. Their long life is a testimony to the timelessness of the prayer lessons he learned from his own deep Christian spirituality. // In view of the popularity of E. M. Bounds writings, it seems incredible that so little about him has been published. To remedy that amazing state of affairs, Lyle W. Dorsett has read every scrap of paper related to Bounds, and the family has made available for the first time a private collection of the Bounds correspondence. From that, Dorsett wrote this account of Bounds' life.

Although he is unquestionably one of the most studied leaders of the 19th century, Simón Bolívar remains today as enigmatic as he was two centuries ago, when his vision and presence largely inspired the overthrow of the Spanish Empire in the New World. The legend of Simón Bolívar has a great deal to do with the Siddhartha-like transition of a Creole aristocrat into an impoverished revolutionary; a sparsely educated but pampered aesthete into a premier Enlightenment thinker, and a privileged youth into a warrior of almost mythological prowess. And while all of it, to a greater or lesser extent, is true, Simón Bolívar was also a revolutionary of an atypical variety. The transformational ideals of Simón Bolívar did not always conform to the uncompromising canons of the French Revolution, or the libertarianism and individual freedoms of the American, and nor was he instinctively hostile to the concept of monarchy or aristocracy. His identification with principles of Enlightenment was leavened by exception, and by consideration, and although his military skills have certainly been overstated, they have tended to be judged against the background of Spanish moral and material collapse in the New World.
In the end, it is precisely these paradoxes and contradictions that made and still makes Simón Bolívar such an interesting individual. The broad milieu into which he was born was a colonial regime spread across a vast region already many centuries old, well established and with many of the essential social and political structures of the Old World implemented in the New World. Simón Bolívar was an aristocrat, but he was also a “Creole,” which implies that he was not of pure European stock, but of blood mixed over centuries with indigenous people, and sometimes with that of imported African slaves.

George Washington is an American hero whose fame is not wholly accounted for by the record of his life. Like Lincoln he was infinitely greater than anything he did. A military genius, he wrested liberty from tyranny; a statesman, he helped evolve a stable government from political chaos; a patriot, he refused a crown. Wisdom, patience, tolerance, courage, consecration to the righteous cause animated his every act.

The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls - Book Summary - Abbey Beathan(Disclaimer: This is NOT the original book.)The story of Jeannette Walls, a woman who had to escape from her family in order to achieve true happiness.Jeannette Walls definitely lived with an unconventional family. It was a double edged sword. On one hand, her parents were talented and smart, but on the other one, they were also dysfunctional people who slowly but surely, corrupted their marriage. A mother who couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family and a father who suffered from alcohol abuse, her family environment was so negative it could only lead Jeannette down a dark path.(Note: This summary is wholly written and published by Abbey Beathan. It is not affiliated with the original author in any way)"You should never hate anyone, even your worst enemies. Everyone has something good about them. You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that." - Jeannette WallsThe story gets interesting when Jeannette could not stand living with her parents anymore. It was time for Jeannette and her brother to fend for themselves and once they found the necessary resources, they fled from home. The Glass Castle is a story of courage, risking everything to live a happy life and that no matter how grim the situation might be, there's still a way out.An inspiring tale about a woman who triumphed against all odds.
