Beschreibung

The first and only book by this internationally renowned American filmmaker is being published to coincide with a major retrospective of her work at MoMA. Retrospectives at the Tate and the Hammer museums to follow. Local and regional media will be planned around retrospective screenings scheduled to coincide with the book. (Possible cities: Minneapolis, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago.) Hammer is known as a pioneer and influence to artists in the queer, feminist, and avant-garde film communities. Hammer is known internationally as a great American artist. She captures the interconnectedness of art and politics of the late 20th century. Hammer uses film stills along with autobiography and essays about her films to reveal the complexities of an artist’s development. Awarded (most recently with a Teddy Award for Best Short Film and a Leo Award, for major contributions to the advancement of American cinema) in festivals throughout the US and across the globe, Hammer has had retrospectives at (partial list of past eight years): Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; P.S.1, New York, NY; Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, Canada; Chinese Cultural Institute, Taipei, Taiwan; Outlook Film Festival, Dublin, Ireland; Melbourne Queer Festival, Melbourne, Australia; U.S.A. Tabloid scandals have driven TV star Ryan Hertzog to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where he’s hiding out doing summer stock at his cousin’s seaside theater. When a hookup with local handyman Trey Donovan results in Ryan being photographed butt naked, he vows to keep his pants on and his hands off Trey. How was he supposed to know Trey would turn out to be the summer stock set builder?Trey isn’t looking for a relationship; he’s still recovering from the emotional fallout of an abusive marriage. But Ryan’s laughter draws him in again and again, and he’s not about to say no to fooling around. As the summer heats up, the paparazzi catch Ryan in increasingly compromising situations. Ryan might be too much drama for a summer fling—and Trey might be just an intermission from Ryan’s Hollywood life. But if they take their cues from Shakespeare, all’s well that ends well.

Three powerful profiles of men and women whose lives were changed forever by the AIDS epidemic“Some of my reasons for wanting to write about AIDS were altruistic, others selfish. AIDS was decimating the community around me; there was a need to bear witness. AIDS had turned me and others like me into walking time bombs; there was a need to strike back, not just wait to die. What I didn't fully appreciate then, however, was the extent to which I was trying to bargain with AIDS: If I wrote about it, maybe I wouldn't get it. My article ran in May 1985. But AIDS didn't keep its part of the bargain.” —George Whitmore, The New York Times MagazinePublished at the height of the AIDS epidemic, Someone Was Here brings together three stories, reported between 1985 and 1987, about the human cost of the disease.Whitmore writes of Jim Sharp, a man in New York infected with AIDS, and Edward Dunn, one of the many people in Jim’s support network, who volunteers with the Gay Men’s Health Crisis organization in the city. Whitmore also profiles a mother, Nellie, who drives to San Francisco to bring her troubled son, Mike, home to Colorado where he will succumb to AIDS. Finally, Whitmore tells of the doctors and nurses working on the AIDS team in a South Bronx hospital, struggling to treat patients afflicted with an illness they don’t yet fully understand.Expanded from reporting that originally appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Someone Was Here is a tragic and deeply felt look at a generation traumatized by AIDS, published just one year before George Whitmore’s own death from the disease.

The UNS Women's Lacrosse team doesn't have an official policy against inter-teammate relationships, but those words might as well be carved into stone tablets in the middle of the field. After witnessing way too much drama in the past, Captain Becca Moore is intent on keeping her players' love lives out of the locker room.Becca has no time or tolerance for any distractions from the game. Unfortunately, that's exactly what Hope Hastings has been since the day she showed up for tryouts: charismatically dorky and kissable distraction.Hope knew she was headed straight to the danger zone from the moment she saw Becca's flame-red hair and surly captain smirk. She's spent the past two years writing off her attraction as a harmless crush, but starting a new semester fresh out of an awful relationship makes Hope realize just how far from harmless the heat between them really is.The friendships of a tight-knit team and their shot at the title are all lying on the line, but as Hope and Becca get closer to bending rules they've sworn never to break, they realize they've put their hearts on that line too. Losing has never been an option, but winning might cost more than they're willing to pay.
