Beschreibung

This book contains a detailed guide to determinants and matrices in algebra. It offers an in-depth look into this area of mathematics, and it is highly recommended for those looking for an introduction to the subject. “Determinants and Matrices” is not to be missed by collectors of vintage mathematical literature. Contents include: “Linear Equations and Transformations”, “The Notation of Matrices”, “Matrices, Row and Column Vectors, Sealers”, “The Operations of Matrix Algebra”, “Matrix Pre- and Postmultiplication”, “Product of Three or More Matrices”, “Transposition of Rows and Columns”, “Transpose of a Product: Reversal Rule”, etc. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. From the bestselling author of The Science of Why series, “a ‘whodunit’ about one of the most fascinating and improbable tales of medical discovery” (Jonathan A. Edlow, MD, author of The Deadly Dinner Party:And Other Medical Detective Stories).    Discovered and identified as the cause of mad cow disease only three decades ago, the prion is a protein molecule that, when misshapen in the brain, becomes fatal. Novel and controversial, prions have provoked a scientific revolution. They challenge the very foundations of biology: A disease-causing entity with no genetic material at all? A molecule capable of infecting, multiplying, and killing? This book recounts the birth of prion science and the imaginative detective work scientists have undertaken as they struggle to find the answers to devastating brain diseases from mad cow and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease to Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s, and others.    As in each of his bestselling books, Jay Ingram here makes complex scientific concepts accessible and shows how little-known events may have profound significance. He describes the development of prion science as a rough-and-tumble affair, with rivals, eccentrics, interfering governments, and brilliantly creative people all playing salient roles. Weaving biology, medicine, human tragedy, discovery, and bitter scientific competition into his account, he reveals the stunning potential of prion science, whose discoveries may unlock the answers to some of humankind’s most destructive diseases.   “The way Ingram presents the ongoing search for answers surrounding BSE and associated neurological conditions makes for an excellent read.”—Quill & Quire (starred review)   “Provides a fascinating insight into the twists and turns of this new science.”—Lara V. Marks, author of Sexual Chemistry: A History of the Contraceptive Pill

HowExpert Guide to Phlebotomy is a glimpse into the life of being a phlebotomist in a private clinic, hospital, or plasma plant. It includes an in-depth description of the types of patients we see, the equipment we use, and how to perform blood draws. The most important part of our profession is drawing blood by inflicting the least amount of pain possible for the patient. This means that you need to be educated on the procedures for specific tests such as a Heparin Quant Assay, a PTINR, and Lipid Panels. If you don’t know these tests, odds are they will need to be redrawn, and the patient will have to undergo an unnecessary procedure. This is a safety problem since every time we puncture the skin of a patient, we risk introducing infection into their bloodstream. This book will also teach you about the order of draw, descriptions of veins, descriptions of patients, and a multitude of different scenarios. If you are beginning a career or are interested in beginning a career in phlebotomy, this book will give you a good foundation of knowledge to build upon with tangible experience.
    About the Author
MacKenna Balsewicz is a 20-year-old mother of one who has spent the last three years working as a phlebotomist at different professional facilities. She started her training at Biomat Plasma Center, where she gained the confidence and skill to draw blood and care for donors. After working at Biomat for 12 months, she transferred to Bryan Hospital to work in the laboratory department. She has fallen in love with performing phlebotomy in the hospital setting and now works at Nebraska Medicine, where she draws upwards of 60 people daily. Along with being a phlebotomist, she will be graduating from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in May of 2023 with her bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
