  Kahlil Gibran-poet, philosopher, and artist-was born in Lebanon in 1883 but spent his final twenty years of life living in the United States. The three books that compose this audiobook are collections of Gibran's aphorisms, parables, and poetic essays.The first book, The Prophet, was originally published in 1923 and is considered Gibran's masterpiece. It is written in prose poetry in twenty-eight parts, and deals with such topics as love, freedom, good and evil, religion, and death. It is a mystical and intensely subjective work, presenting the human soul as essentially noble and good.In The Forerunner, originally published in 1920, Gibran asserts that "nobody is to be blamed for our 'being' and 'having' but ourselves." Gibran makes it clear that we are our own destiny and not the toy of a blind fate.Finally, the titular entity of The Madman, originally published in 1918, is not literally mentally unbalanced; on the contrary, he is perfectly healthy. His madness is only in the eyes of others. Gibran asserts that we tend to be what society expects from us, even though these expectations could be detrimental for the development of our self-identity. Oftentimes, we veil our true selves with masks out of fear of being ridiculed by others.

  About the Book 
  Dallas Falkenhayn bakes and sells the most amazing bread. He is excellent in the kitchen. Creative. Careful. Precise. His only problem is there is an entire world that exists outside of his kitchen. He tries not to think about it. Or visit it. 
  Flannel, Georgia is a tiny town in southern Georgia. They have an alligator processing plant. A high school. And the most railway traffic in the entire south-east. Not much changes in Flannel. And when things do change, they don’t change very quickly. 
  Dallas doesn’t want to go to Flannel, but he has too. Flannel doesn’t particularly want a bakery, but it gets one. 
  And then there is that whole murder thing that happens. 
  About the Author 
  Clay is very boring. That’s why he writes. He really likes to stay at home. If there is ever a choice between going and not going literally anywhere --well that’s not a choice at all.  
  His goal in life is to be in his PJs by five pm, everyday. On good days he doesn’t get out his PJs in the first place. He loves movies, baseball, and board games. His favorite thing in the world is his family. And his favorite thing not in the world is the James Webb Space Telescope. Unless we’re counting Jedis. If we’re counting Jedis than he’ll take Luke Skywalker over James Webb.
