In THE STORIES WE CANNOT TELL, Rasmussen bravely tackles the taboo topics of fertility issues and pregnancy complications. Babies may be a great topic for small talk but their absence should clearly not be discussed with acquaintances. This novel presents a narrative that is emotionally demanding to share and equally tough to absorb. Everybody rejoices when a new life is coming into this world. Yet, nobody wants to think about how difficult it may be to conceive in the first place or the many things that can go wrong during pregnancy. Rasmussen takes great care to portray these painful experiences in the most tender and lighthearted way possible.

Two women. Two pregnancies. While Rachel has been trying for a baby for a long time, Katie’s pregnancy comes as a shock. At 18 weeks in, both women learn that there may be something very wrong with their babies and are faced with an impossible decision. When they meet at a support group, they quickly relate and find solace in each other’s confidentiality until unexpected events test their bond.

A true eye-opener for the complications that may come with the wonder of life.
