Joanna Davidson Politano’s latest novel is a mesmerizing historical novel that will captivate readers from the very first page.

The story revolves around concert pianist Vivienne Mourdant, who, after the death of her father, discovers that she is responsible for an adult ward at the psychiatric clinic of Hurstwell. Vivienne becomes intrigued by the portrait of this mysterious ward who seems oddly familiar, and she is determined to uncover the truth about her relationship with this woman but nobody is willing to answer her questions.

Vivienne decides to investigate on her own and takes on a false identity to work at the clinic. As she delves deeper into the mysteries of the clinic, she discovers patients who seem perfectly sane, as well as those who have disappeared without a trace. The work at the clinic takes a toll on Vivienne, and she eventually finds herself hospitalized due to extreme exhaustion.
