قصة حب وفقد ومحاولة للبحث عن السعادة والتمسك بالأمل. فرغم مرض حبيبته والموت الذي يحوم حولها، يصر بطل الرواية على ملازمة سريرها وإحياء الأمل فيها حتى في أسوأ الظروف، مردداً جملة شعرية لبول فاليري: "علت الرياح، لنحاول أن نحيا". أوحت هذه الرواية لمخرج الانمي الشهير هاياو ميازاكي آخر أفلامه حتى الآن والذي عنوانه بنفس عنوان الرواية. ولكن من يقرأ الرواية ويشاهد الفلم يجد بينهما اختلافاُ كبيراً. فقد دمج ميازاكي قصتين مختلفتين في قصة واحدة وصنع منهما سيناريو فيلمه الذي أبهر العالم كله وحقق شهرة مدوية.Mostra libro
