The Sound and the Fury is a novel by William Faulkner, first published in 1929. It's widely regarded as one of the most important works of 20th-century American literature, known for its experimental narrative techniques, particularly the use of stream of consciousness. The novel tells the story of the decline of the Compson family, a once-prominent Southern family in Mississippi.William Faulkner (1897–1962) was one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century.
