Summary

'A delicious tale in which class, politics, and a toxic press all jostle for our horrified attention' Tunku Varadarajan, The Wall Street Journal
Eton Rogue is a hilarious and shocking story of scandal and rebellion – all set in the heart of the world’s most famous school, Eton College.
Meet our Eton Rogue: Seventeen-year-old Cary, now embarking on his extraordinary final year at Eton. Prince William has joined the school and the British tabloids are ravenous for headlines. Cary is the mole who’s making thousands selling stories to the Sun newspaper - and while he’s at it, he’s secretly dating a housemaster’s daughter.
Based on true events, the rule of Eton Rogue is simple: The more outrageous the tale, the greater the chances that it actually occurred.

As World War II rages in Europe and in the Pacific, the small town of Progress is doing its part for the soldiers in the field with a war bond drive at the annual county fair. Town gossip Ava Dempsey starts a rumor that Clark Gable will be among the participating stars. Instead of Gable, though, the headliner is Freddie Harrison, a B-movie star. When Freddie turns up dead in the dunk tank, Irene Ingram, editor-in-chief of The Progress Herald, starts chasing the real headline. There are plenty of suspects and little evidence. Ava’s sister Angel, who was married to the dead actor, is the most obvious. The couple had argued about his affair with the young starlet Belinda Fox, and Angel was the last person to see Freddie alive. But Irene discovers there’s more than one person who might have wanted Freddie dead. As she draws on her well-honed reporter’s instincts to find the killer, nothing is what it seems in Progress—and now her own deadline could be right around the corner.

"The Mystery of 31 New Inn" by R. Austin Freeman is a detective novel written in the early 20th century. The story revolves around Dr. Jervis, a medical doctor who becomes involved in a perplexing case concerning a mysterious patient named Mr. Graves. Mr. Graves appears to be gravely ill under unusual circumstances that suggest he may have been poisoned.
At the beginning of the narrative, Dr. Jervis reflects on his connection with the influential detective John Thorndyke while recounting a recent incident in his practice. He receives a call from a messenger summoning him to attend to Mr. Graves, a patient who has refused medical help until this point. Upon arriving at a dimly lit house, he is greeted by an anxious housekeeper.
When Dr. Jervis confronts Mr. Graves, he notices alarming signs indicative of opium poisoning, which leads him into a web of secrecy and uncertainty. The strange atmosphere, the housekeeper’s behavior, and the ominous presence of Mr. Weiss create a tense dynamic. This raises questions about the true nature of Mr. Graves's illness, the motivations of those involved, and the dark secrets they might be hiding.

"The Deadly Pod" is a chilling horror tale set in the picturesque fishing village of Beer, Devon, where the seemingly idyllic coastal landscape conceals a family's monstrous legacy. The Stabb family—patriarch Paul (73), matriarch Susan (68), their son Peter (54), his wife Margaret (51), and their teenage son James (18)—operate a deadly glamping business from their remote clifftop cottage.
In 2018, the family installs a modern holiday pod designed to lure solo travelers to their doom. Beneath its sleek exterior lies a hidden chamber where victims are imprisoned before being murdered and cannibalized. The pod becomes a perfect hunting ground, with Susan managing online bookings while Paul and Peter handle the gruesome logistics. James, traumatized and reluctant, is forced to participate in the family's ritualistic meals.
The system proves devastatingly effective, claiming multiple victims including Sarah (a London photographer), Marcus (a German artist), and Eleanor (a retired librarian). Each disappearance is carefully orchestrated, with the family using victims' own devices to send false messages explaining extended stays. The isolated location and Paul's knowledge of local tides ensure evidence vanishes into the sea.
However, the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown destroys their operation. With tourism halted, the family faces starvation. Desperation breeds paranoia, and Margaret's mental breakdown triggers the first act of familial cannibalism when Peter kills her during a violent confrontation. The family's consumption of Margaret marks their point of no return.
As hunger and madness consume them, the remaining family members turn on each other. Susan suffers psychological collapse, Paul loses his authority, and Peter becomes increasingly unstable. In the climactic confrontation, Peter murders his father before James, in a desperate act of survival, kills Peter with a kitchen knife.
Police Constable Miller discovers the carnage.
