Summary

In G. P. S.'s thought-provoking novel, "Destiny," the intertwining narratives of multiple characters unfold against a richly textured backdrop of existential inquiry and moral nuance. The author employs a lyrical prose style that juxtaposes lyrical introspection with striking imagery, allowing the reader to explore the themes of fate, choice, and the human condition. Set within a contemporary societal framework, the novel mirrors the complexities of modern life, capturing the delicate balance between predestination and free will, and inviting a deep reflection on the nature of agency in our lives. G. P. S., a writer known for his profound philosophical underpinnings and nuanced character development, draws from his extensive background in psychology and existential philosophy. The author's experiences with diverse cultures and his formal education in literature have imparted a unique lens through which he examines the facets of human existence. This rich background not only informs the characters' inner struggles but also gives depth to their quests for meaning and understanding within the tapestry of destiny. "Destiny" is a compelling read for anyone seeking to grapple with themes of autonomy and fate. G. P. S. crafts a narrative that transcends mere storytelling, inviting readers to ponder their own paths. This book serves as both a mirror and a guide, making it a must-read for those interested in philosophical literature and the intricacies of human choice.

The Eel by Miriam Allen DeFord - The punishment had to fit more than just the crime—it had to suit every world in the Galaxy!
He was intimately and unfavorably known everywhere in the Galaxy, but with special virulence on eight planets in three different solar systems. He was eagerly sought on each; they all wanted to try him and punish him—in each case, by their own laws and customs. This had been going on for 26 terrestrial years, which means from minus ten to plus 280 in some of the others. The only place that didn't want him was Earth, his native planet, where he was too smart to operate—but, of course, the Galactic Police were looking for him there too, to deliver him to the authorities of the other planets in accordance with the Interplanetary Constitution.
For all of those years, The Eel (which was his Earth monicker; elsewhere, he was known by names indicating equally squirmy and slimy life-forms) had been gayly going his way, known under a dozen different aliases, turning up suddenly here, there, everywhere, committing his gigantic depredations, and disappearing as quickly and silently when his latest enterprise had succeeded. He specialized in enormous, unprecedented thefts. It was said that he despised stealing anything under the value of 100 million terrestrial units, and most of his thefts were much larger than that.
He had no recognizable modus operandi, changing his methods with each new crime. He never left a clue. But, in bravado, he signed his name to every job: his monicker flattered him, and after each malefaction the victim—usually a government agency, a giant corporation, or one of the clan enterprises of the smaller planets—would receive a message consisting merely of the impudent depiction of a large wriggling eel.

The Street That Wasn't There by Carl Jacobi and Clifford D. Simak - He did the same thing at the same time every night for 20 years. Then he realized something was wrong, something was very wrong.
Mr. Jonathon Chambers left his house on Maple Street at exactly seven o'clock in the evening and set out on the daily walk he had taken, at the same time, come rain or snow, for twenty solid years.
The walk never varied. He paced two blocks down Maple Street, stopped at the Red Star confectionery to buy a Rose Trofero perfecto, then walked to the end of the fourth block on Maple. There he turned right on Lexington, followed Lexington to Oak, down Oak and so by way of Lincoln back to Maple again and to his home.
He didn't walk fast. He took his time. He always returned to his front door at exactly 7:45. No one ever stopped to talk with him. Even the man at the Red Star confectionery, where he bought his cigar, remained silent while the purchase was being made. Mr. Chambers merely tapped on the glass top of the counter with a coin, the man reached in and brought forth the box, and Mr. Chambers took his cigar. That was all.
For people long ago had gathered that Mr. Chambers desired to be left alone. The newer generation of townsfolk called it eccentricity. Certain uncouth persons had a different word for it. The oldsters remembered that this queer looking individual with his black silk muffler, rosewood cane and bowler hat once had been a professor at State University.
A professor of metaphysics, they seemed to recall, or some such outlandish subject.
