This program includes a bonus conversation between the author and editor.Volodymyr Zelensky captivated the world when his country was invaded by Russia in February 2022. His appearances were accompanied by countless inspiring statements. But there's a single one that informs Unlocking Your Inner Zelensky: "We are all simple people."Jessie Kanzer sees Zelensky as a Spiritual Leader for Our Times. As a native Russian speaker (like Zelensky himself), she picks up on the deep philosophical ramifications behind his words. Rich and yet easily understood, the life lessons in Unlocking Your Inner Zelensky are accessible and wise, and are more about starting where you are than about war.Kanzer herself has a bit part in Zelensky's life story, acting in one of his movies filmed in the States. She's a self-described "spiritual nerd" who followed Zelensky long before he stood before a blue and yellow backdrop on the national stage. She writes, "What is so incredible about our man Volodymyr is that his belief in himself stems not from seeing himself as special, but from seeing himself as ordinary and from knowing there is great power in this ordinariness."A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Press Essentials.

“I feel, when we have no friends upon whom to lean, or to look for moral guidance." (Mussolini)

The Doctrine of Fascism" is an essay attributed to Benito Mussolini. In truth, the first part of the essay, entitled "Idee Fondamentali", was written by the Italian philosopher Giovanni Gentile, while only the second part is the work of Mussolini himself.

Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, born on July 29, 1883, who went by the nickname “Il Duce” (“the Leader”), was a deeply unbalanced tyrannical Italian dictator who created the dreaded Fascist Party in 1919. Eventually, he held all power in Italy as the country’s prime minister from 1922 to 1943. An ardent socialist as a youth, Mussolini followed in his father's political footsteps but was expelled by the party for his overt support of World War I. As an evil dictator during World War II (even murdering his own son by lethal injection) he greatly overextended his forces and was eventually killed by his own people in Mezzegra, Italy. Here, for the first time, are the words of the great dictator himself in his twisted manifesto on the political movement he started and is still so feared to this very day. A rare audiobook adventure in politics, history, and outrage!

"A brilliant, riveting, funny, terrifying journey into the beating heart of Trumpland." —Liza Mundy, author of Code Girls
In this daring workof immersive journalism, based on hundreds of hours of reporting, Carl Hoffman journeys deep inside Donald Trump’s rallies, seeking to understand the strangeand powerful tribe that forms the president’s base.
Hoffman, who has written about the most dangerous and remote corners of the world, pierced thisalternate society, welcomed in and initiated into its rites and upside-downbeliefs, and finally ushered to its inner sanctum. Equally freewheeling andprofound, Liar’s Circus tracks the MAGAfaithful across five thousand miles of the American heartland during a crucial arcof the Trump presidency stretching from the impeachment saga to the dawn of thecoronavirus pandemic that ended the rallies as we know it.
Trump’srallies are a singular and defining force in American history—a kind of Rosettastone to understanding the Age of Trump. Yet while much remarked upon, theyare, in fact, little examined, with the focus almost always on Trump’s latestoutrageous statement. But who are the tens of thousands of people who fill thesearenas? What do they see in Trump? And what curious alchemy—between presidentand adoring crowd—happens there that might explain Trump’s rise and powerfulhold over both his base and the GOP?
Tothose on the left, the rallies are a Black Mass of American politics at whichTrump plays high priest, recklessly summoning the darkest forces within thenation. To the MAGA faithful, the rallies are a form of pilgrimage, a joyousceremony that like all rituals binds people together and makes them feel a partof something bigger than themselves. Both sides would acknowledge that thistraveling roadshow is the pressurized, combustible core of Trump’s politicalpower, a meeting of the faithful where Trump is unshackled and his rhetoricreaches its most extreme, with downstream consequences for the rest of thenation.
Todate, no reporter has sought to understand the rallies as a sociologicalphenomenon examined from the bottom up. Hoffman has done just this. He hasstood in line for more than 170 hours with Trump's most ardent superfans andjoined them at the very front row; he has traveled from Minnesota to Texas,Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Hampshire immersing himself in theirculture.
Liar’s Circus is a revelatory portrait of Trump’s America, fromone of our most intrepid journalists.

From the winner of the first Lannan Prize for Cultural Freedom, a bitingly funny, kaleidoscopic vision of the First World through the eyes of the Third.Eduardo Galeano, author of the incomparable Memory of Fire Trilogy, combines a novelist's intensity, a poet's lyricism, a journalist's fearlessness, and the strong judgments of an engaged historian. Now his talents are richly displayed in Upside Down, an eloquent, passionate, sometimes hilarious exposé of our first-world privileges and assumptions. In a series of lesson plans and a “program of study” about our beleaguered planet, Galeano takes the reader on a wild trip through the global looking glass. From a master class in “The Impunity of Power” to a seminar on “The Sacred Car” —with tips along the way on “How to Resist Useless Vices” and a declaration of “The Right to Rave” —he surveys a world unevenly divided between abundance and deprivation, carnival and torture, power and helplessness. We have accepted a reality we should reject, Galeano teaches us, one where machines are more precious than humans, people are hungry, poverty kills, and children toil from dark to dark.A work of fire and charm, Upside Down makes us see the world anew and even glimpse how it might be set right.“Galeano's outrage is tempered by intelligence, an ineradicable sense of humor, and hope.” —Los Angeles Times

“Excellent. . . .The book gives one a clear understanding of the relationship of Guevara's thought to traditional Russian and Marxist philosophy.” —Choice Reviews   In this seminal exploration of Che Guevara’s contributions to Marxist thinking, Michael Löwy traces Che's ideas about Marxism both as they related to Latin America and to more general philosophical, political, and economic issues. Now revised and updated, this edition includes a chapter on Guevara's search for a new paradigm of socialism and a substantive essay by Peter McLaren on Che’s continued relevance today. Löwy portrays Guevara as a revolutionary humanist who considered all political questions from an internationalist viewpoint. For him, revolutionary movements in Latin America were part of a world process of emancipation. Löwy considers especially Che's views on the contradiction between socialist planning and the law of value in the Cuban economy and his search for an alternative road to the “actually existing socialism” of the Stalinist and post-Stalinist Soviet bloc. Che’s varied occupations—doctor and economist, revolutionary and banker, agitator and ambassador, industrial organizer and guerrilla fighter—were expressions of a deep commitment to social change. This book eloquently captures his views on humanity, his contributions to the theory of revolutionary warfare, and his ideas about society’s transition to socialism, offering a cohesive, nuanced introduction to the range of Guevara's thought.   “An excellent classroom tool for anyone teaching about Latin America or revolution.” ―Science & Society “[This book] provides us with the picture of [Guevara’s] great, flexible, and searching mind.” —Carleton Beals   “Michael Löwy’s brief but penetrating book takes Che Guevara not as a romantic adventurer but as a serious revolutionary militant.” ―Telos
