Summary

Dismissed from the rear palace, Maomao returns to service in the outer court—as the personal serving woman to none other than Jinshi! That doesn’t necessarily make her popular with the other ladies, but a bit of jealousy might be the least of her problems. A mysterious warehouse fire, an official with a very bad case of food poisoning, and the mysterious last will and testament of a deceased craftsman all demand her attention—but are these cases really separate, or do they share a troubling connection? Then there’s the mysterious military man who continually visits Jinshi. He’s strange, maybe even a little twisted... and he seems very interested in Maomao.

LAPD Detective Ray Collins and his partner Steadly team up again to solve a case which might not only put their careers on the line, but also their lives.
A young girl seems to have disappeared without any trace whatsoever. Her best friend Rebecca tells the police that they got drunk and took pills “up in the hills somewhere”, but she has no further memory what happened next. When she woke up the next morning, Tracey was gone.
There are little to no hints of what might have happened, with the exception of Rebecca having partial memory of a luxurious mansion. The owner, Lawrence Helzinger, is famous for his social circle, including politicians and police chiefs, who for years protected him from prosecution. His parties are reported to be notorious, turning into orgies, allegedly passing around underage girls. The LAPD, the Washington Post and the New York Times have been after Helzinger for years, but for some reason he seems to be untouchable.
Faced with an insurmountable opponent, Collins and Steadly have to fight against the clock to rescue the missing girl and save innocent lives. The two must put aside old resentments and new tensions to run to ground one of the most powerful men in Los Angeles, a cabal of reckless people involved in a secret conspiracy with many moving parts.
Ray must not only uncover but expose the monsters lurking in the shadows – which might result in his very own downfall.

Red Harvest is a hardboiled classic that set the standard for gritty, no-nonsense crime fiction. Written by Dashiell Hammett, this explosive novel follows an unnamed detective—referred to only as "The Continental Op"—as he arrives in a corrupt industrial town known as "Poisonville." Hired to clean up the city, he quickly finds himself in the middle of a brutal gang war. Betrayals, double-crosses, and brutal power plays spiral into chaos as the Op's relentless quest for justice leads to a blood-soaked reckoning.
With its razor-sharp dialogue, brutal realism, and dark wit, Red Harvest established Hammett as a pioneer of noir fiction, cementing his legacy as the godfather of the genre. This is a relentless tale of moral ambiguity and violence, where every character walks the thin line between survival and self-destruction.

It's early May in the small English village of Finch and the air is crackling with excitement: a newcomer is about to move into Pussywillows, a riverside cottage with a romantic reputation. Will the cottage's newest resident prove yet again its enchanting ability to matchmake? But when Crispin Windle arrives, no one knows what to make of him: seemingly a loner, he repels every welcoming gesture and appears altogether uninterested in being a part of the community. Soon, the townspeople have all but dismissed him. Only Lori and Tommy Prescott, a young army veteran who recently moved to Finch, refuse to give up. They orchestrate a chance meeting that leads to a startling discovery: a set of overgrown ruins. They are, Aunt Dimity shares, the remains of a Victorian woolen mill that once brought prosperity to Finch. As the three explore, they stumble upon the unmarked graves of children who died working at the mill. Heartbroken, Lori, Tommy, and Mr. Windle get to work on the seemingly impossible task of identifying the children to give them a proper burial. And as Mr. Windle works tirelessly to name the forgotten children, he slowly begins to open up—giving the romantic cottage a chance to heal his heart as well.

This is an audio-enhanced version of Washington Irving's classic tale of horror and suspense, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" - complete with sound effects and a musical soundtrack. It relates the story of Ichabod Crane, the lanky Tarrytown schoolmaster who is vying for the hand of the local beauty Katrina Van Tassel, along with local strongman and bully Brom Bones. After attending a party at the Van Tassels' one fall night, Crane learns of the legend of the mysterious and spectral Headless Horseman, who rides by night and terrorizes those who dare to travel Tarrytown by night. Traveling home after the party that night, the superstitious (and romantically crestfallen) Crane spies a fellow rider in the woods. A rider...without a head! An American Halloween tradition since its publication in 1820, Irving's tale is a classic of the genre and a thrilling holiday yarn.
