Sinossi

Are you facing challenges with developing, deploying, monitoring, clustering, storing, securing, and managing Kubernetes in production environments as you're not familiar with infrastructure technologies? MicroK8s - a zero-ops, lightweight, and CNCF-compliant Kubernetes with a small footprint is the apt solution for you.
This book gets you up and running with production-grade, highly available (HA) Kubernetes clusters on MicroK8s using best practices and examples based on IoT and edge computing.
Beginning with an introduction to Kubernetes, MicroK8s, and IoT and edge computing architectures, this book shows you how to install, deploy sample apps, and enable add-ons (like DNS and dashboard) on the MicroK8s platform. You’ll work with multi-node Kubernetes clusters on Raspberry Pi and networking plugins (such as Calico and Cilium) and implement service mesh, load balancing with MetalLB and Ingress, and AI/ML workloads on MicroK8s. You’ll also understand how to secure containers, monitor infrastructure and apps with Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack, manage storage replication with OpenEBS, resist component failure using a HA cluster, and more, as well as take a sneak peek into future trends.
By the end of this book, you’ll be able to use MicroK8 to build and implement scenarios for IoT and edge computing workloads in a production environment.

Farmers in some of the world's oldest agricultural areas were toiling year after year, only to find that modern industrial agriculture was turning on itself. Industrial agriculture's effects on our climate and environment were multiplying and worsening, until the very families growing the world's food were starving.

They terraced the land to catch more rainwater and prevent soil runoff; they planted a diverse range of vegetables that would balance the nutrients in the soil; they replaced commercial fertilizers with organic matter from their own farms; they planted more trees and drought-resistant grains; and, perhaps most importantly, they taught their communities by example that these regenerative farming methods paid off—both in nourishing their families and in bringing their land back to life.

Award-winning author and journalist Roger Thurow has traveled to Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, India, Guatemala, Peru, and the United States to share their stories, highlighting the conflicts inherent in our most important human endeavor: feeding the world using the methods of industrial agriculture is stripping the land of its ability to feed future generations. But these farmers are starting a new kind of revolution, nourishing both humans and the land, and following their lead could help us solve one of the great crises of our time.

    The History of Urbanization -...

Urbanization refers to the process through which cities and towns grow as a result of the migration of people from rural areas and the expansion of urban areas. It is a phenomenon that has shaped human history for thousands of years, influencing every aspect of society from economics to culture and beyond. As populations increase, the desire for better living conditions, access to employment, and social interaction has led individuals to seek opportunities in urban centers. Over time, these cities evolve to accommodate larger populations, evolving into complex hubs of commerce, culture, and technology.
The roots of urbanization trace back to the early agricultural revolution, which enabled humans to produce food more efficiently and settle in one place. This change allowed small villages to grow into the first cities, creating more permanent centers of human life. As civilizations advanced, cities became focal points for trade, governance, religion, and culture. Each of these elements played a crucial role in promoting further urban development, as settlements began to specialize in various industries, services, and functions that drew people from surrounding rural regions.
Historically, urbanization was most prominent in ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and later, Greece and Rome. These early cities, though primitive by modern standards, laid the foundations for the urban environments we know today. Greek and Roman cities were carefully planned, with infrastructures like roads, aqueducts, and public spaces that contributed to their growth and sustainability. In more recent centuries, urbanization expanded rapidly during the Industrial Revolution, driven by advances in technology, industry, and transportation. Factories, railroads, and new employment opportunities in cities attracted millions of people, transforming landscapes and social structures in profound ways.
