Imagine losing a loved one in the public eye. A media frenzy ensues and spreads your family name through the news. Reporters ambush you, and across the country, strangers gossip about your personal loss. Welcome to the circus. No one understands better than Kim Goldman the complex emotions of individuals suffering a personal tragedy under the relentless gaze of the media. During the famed O.J. Simpson trial, Kim, whose brother, Ron Goldman, was brutally murdered, became the public poster child for victims suffering in the public eye. In Media Circus, Goldman, now a dedicated victims' advocate who works with families across the country, presents the first collective look at these ordinary, grieving victims—forced to manage their very private trauma and despair in a very public way. Through candid interviews and detailed, original reporting, Media Circus delivers riveting, humanizing, and inspiring stories from the victims and survivors of violent crimes who found themselves the focus of national media attention. Its heartfelt narratives showcase the unique challenges of coping with and healing from grief when the whole world is watching. Social justice has always remained a preoccupation and concern, and even a passion, in the very mental make-up of the Tamil people. The history of Tamil down the ages shows that the socially oppressed and their rights to religious observances have always been upheld. The Tamils were therefore particularly impressed by the principles of Karl Marx. While upholding economic justice, the Tamils also asserted social justice. The emphasis of social justice shifted from a demand for religious rights to a demand for the right to education and social equality. At the same time the European Rationality also influenced the Tamil stock. So it was like a confluence of new sentiments, ideas, rationality and agnosticism that led to institutionalized ideological movements during the 19th and 20th centuries that characterized the tenor of the Tamil thought stream, politics, religion, social structure, empowerment and a revaluation of the traditional. Such institutionalization was best realized by the Dravidian Movement led by EV Ramasamy Naicker, reverently called Periyar. Periyar lived a long life and through and through he had been vociferous and influential. His writings and speeches run to thousands of pages. A few selected speeches and articles, which however are too little to represent the multifarious issues that Periyar addressed, have been presented in this audio book. The selection eliminates a couple of issues because certain causes that made Periyar address those issues no more exist in the Tamil society of the 20th and 21st centuries. The selected speeches and articles are from his corpus on the following issues.
    1.       திராவிடநாடு 2. கலைகள் 3. பொருளாதாரம் 4. சமுதாயம் 5. தத்துவம் 6. கிராம சீர்திருத்தம் 7. கல்வி 8. பகுத்தறிவு 9. தேசியம், இயக்கங்கள்

Inca Empire - The Builders of...

The story of the Inca Empire begins with a mix of myth and history, deeply rooted in the Andean highlands of South America. According to Inca legend, the empire’s origins trace back to the Sun God, Inti, who sent his son, Manco Cápac, to establish a kingdom on Earth. Manco Cápac and his sister-wife Mama Ocllo emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca, tasked with finding the place where the sun would set forever. Guided by this divine mission, they journeyed through the Andes, eventually founding the city of Cusco, which would become the heart of the Inca Empire. This mythic narrative blended with historical elements, shaping the early identity of the Incas as a people divinely chosen and destined for greatness.
The rise of the Inca Empire began in earnest during the 12th century, but it wasn’t until the 15th century that the Inca began their ambitious expansion under the leadership of Pachacuti. Before this period, the Inca were a small ethnic group living in the valley of Cusco, a modest settlement by the standards of the Andean world. The powerful Wari and Tiwanaku civilizations had already left their marks on the region, and other neighboring cultures, such as the Chanka and the Nazca, vied for dominance in the highlands. However, it was the strategic leadership and military genius of the early Inca rulers that laid the foundation for what would become the largest empire in pre-Columbian America.
Manco Cápac, the first Sapa Inca (the title for the emperor), established the social and political framework that would support future conquests. He was followed by a line of rulers who solidified Cusco’s position as the seat of power, but it wasn’t until Pachacuti’s reign that the Inca’s ambitions expanded beyond their small kingdom. Under Pachacuti’s rule, the Inca adopted a highly organized and disciplined military structure, which allowed them to conquer surrounding territories and absorb them into their growing empire.
