He is the law—and you better believe it!

Judge, jury, and executioner, Judge Dredd is the brutal comic book cop policing the chaotic future urban jungle of Mega-City One, created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra and launching in the pages of 2000 AD in 1977.

But what began as a sci-fi action comic quickly evolved into a searing satire on hardline, militarized policing and "law and order" politics, its endless inventiveness and ironic humor acting as a prophetic warning about our world today—and with important lessons for our future.

Blending comic book history with contemporary radical theories on policing, I Am The Law takes key Dredd stories from the last forty-five years and demonstrates how they provide a unique wake up call about our gradual, and not so gradual, slide towards authoritarian policing.

From the politicization of policing to "zero tolerance," from violent suppression of protest to the rise of the surveillance state, I Am The Law examines how a comic book warned us about the chilling endgame of today's "law and order" politics.

The illicit global economy encompasses cross-border flows of goods, people, money, and information unauthorized by either the sending or receiving country. Typically, this means flows that are prohibited, regulated, stolen, or counterfeit. Some of these flows are obscure or mostly a law enforcement nuisance, but others receive enormous policy and media attention. Still others have severe environmental impacts and security implications. Collectively, these flows reflect the illicit side of the global economy. The Illicit Global Economy: What Everyone Needs to Know® answers the key questions about how illicit global markets are structured and operate, how they intersect with state institutions and practices, how they interact with the legal economy, and how they shape and are shaped by domestic and international politics. This pithy yet authoritative primer helps listeners make sense of a crucial part of the global economy that is too often either neglected or distorted. In this regard, an underlying theme in the book is the need for a more historically informed critical perspective that challenges the many myths and misconceptions about the illicit global economy that are all-too-prevalent in contemporary media accounts, Hollywood depictions, popular books, and policy debates.

    Thomas Paine: Common Sense -...

Common Sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. In clear, simple language it explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places. Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.
Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people. He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity. Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as "the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era".

The Principles of Communism by Friedrich Engels is a foundational political text that outlines the core tenets of communism in a concise and accessible format. Written in 1847 as a preparatory document for the Communist League, the book is structured as a series of questions and answers, making it straightforward for readers to grasp. Engels explores key concepts such as the historical development of class struggles, the rise of capitalism, the exploitation of the working class, and the necessity of a proletarian revolution. He advocates for the abolition of private property, the establishment of collective ownership of the means of production, and the eventual creation of a classless, stateless society. Serving as a precursor to *The Communist Manifesto*, this work provides invaluable insights into the ideological foundations of Marxist theory and remains an important text in the history of socialist thought.

    A SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
Piers Morgan welcomes the return of a common-sense world
They claimed it was a movement that would change society forever. Instead, it's been buried six feet under by common sense.
For a decade, “woke” infected every corner of our lives. Cancel culture ran riot. Men became toxic. Virtue signalling was everywhere. And if you dared disagree? You'd be terminated on the spot.
But then something extraordinary happened. All over the world, people woke up.
In this explosive and uproarious takedown, Piers Morgan charts the spectacular collapse of the most ridiculous ideology in human history. With his trademark wit and fearless honesty, he exposes the hypocrites, destroys the myths, and celebrates the heroes who refused to surrender to the woke brigade.
Inside, Morgan takes aim at the madness wherever it's hiding and calls out the absurdity with humour, logic, and outrage. He pulls no punches as he tackles:Hollywood hypocrisy – when celebrity virtue-signaling became it's own performanceEnviron-mentalists – how saving the planet turned into shouting about plastic strawsGo Woke, Go Broke – from brand deals to the price of moral posturingWord Police – the battle over language and what you can and can't sayAnd much more
But this isn't just about pointing and laughing at the wreckage. With his unique blend of savage humour and surprising wisdom, Morgan offers a roadmap for navigating our post-woke world and a less divided, more sensible society.
Woke is Dead is the provocative, hilarious and essential read for anyone who wants to understand how an entire civilisation briefly lost its mind.
Piers Morgan's Woke is Dead is a Sunday Times bestselling book that offers a scathing critique of the woke movement. This latest political commentary is a compelling blend of autobiography, social activism critique, and personal growth, making it a top-rated non-fiction book.

The story of how the American South became the most incarcerated region in the world’s most incarcerated nation.

Sunbelt Capitalism and the Making of the Carceral State examines the evolution of southern criminal punishment from Jim Crow to the dawn of mass incarceration, charting this definitive era of carceral transformation and expansion in the southern United States. The demise of the county chain gang, the professionalization of police, and the construction of large-scale prisons were among the sweeping changes that forever altered the southern landscape and bolstered the region’s capacity to punish. What prompted this southern revolution in criminal punishment?

Kirstine Taylor argues that the crisis in the cotton fields and the arrival of Sunbelt capitalism in the south’s rising metropolises prompted lawmakers to build expansive, modern criminal punishment systems in response to Brown v. Board of Education and the Black freedom movements of the 1960s and ‘70s. Taking us inside industry-hunting expeditions, school desegregation battles, the sit-in movement, prisoners’ labor unions, and policy commissions, Taylor tells the story of how a modernizing south became the most incarcerated region in the globe’s most incarcerated nation.
