Sinossi

What is Military Geography

Military geography is a sub-field of geography that is used by the military, as well as academics and politicians, to understand the geopolitical sphere through the military lens. To accomplish these ends, military geographers consider topics from geopolitics to physical locations influences on military operations and the cultural and economic impacts of a military presence. On a tactical level, a military geographer might put together the terrain and the drainage system below the surface, so a unit is not at a disadvantage if the enemy uses the drainage system to ambush it, especially in urban warfare. On a strategic level, an emerging field of strategic and military geography seeks to understand the changing human and biophysical environments that alter the security and military domains. Climate change, for example, is adding and multiplying the complexity of military strategy, planning and training. Emerging responsibilities for the military to be involved in: protection of civilian populations, women and ethnic groups; provision of humanitarian aid and disaster response (HADR); new technology and domains of training and operations, such as in cybergeography, make military geography a dynamic frontier. If a general desired to be a successful actor in the great drama of war, his first duty is to study carefully the theater of operations so that he may see clearly the relative advantages and disadvantages it presents for himself and his enemies "Baron De Jomini"

The Common Yellowthroat is a small warbler of the migratory species with an extensive range, occurring throughout North America and Central America down to northern South America. The male has distinctive yellow underparts, with a black mask above the eyes and throat, while the female has a plainer greenish-olive back and yellowish underparts. The Common Yellowthroat often perches atop a tall stalk to rap out his distinctive song, wichity-wichity-wichity. This binaural audio recording features the Common Yellowthroat birdsong recorded in its natural habitat in Iowa’s Yellow River State Forest near a delicate babbling river stream together with other birds, insects, and ground creatures. Other birdsongs include: Blue Jay, Song Sparrow, Wood Thrush, Red-bellied Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch with Northern Cardinal and Mourning Dove in background.

In this radiant work of creative nonfiction, internationally beloved novelist Val McDermid delivers a dazzling ode to a lost world, ruminating on a single winter in her life as she journeys into the heart of the season's ever-evolving community-based traditions
Val McDermid has always had a soft spot for winter: the bitter clarity of a crisp cold day, the crunch of frost on fallen leaves, and the chance to be enveloped in big jumpers and thick socks.
In Winter, McDermid takes us on an adventure through the season, from the frosty streets of Edinburgh to the windblown Scottish coast, from Bonfire Night and Christmas to Burns Night and Up Helly Aa. Recalling in parallel memories from her own childhood--of skating over frozen lakes and carving a "neep" (rutabaga) for Halloween to being taken to see her first real Christmas tree in the town square--McDermid offers a wise and enchanting meditation on winter and its ever-changing, sometimes ephemeral, traditions.
A hygge-filled journey through winter nights, McDermid reminds us that it is a time of rest, retreat and creativity, for scribbling in notebooks and settling in beside the fire. A treat for the hunkering-down, post-holiday reading season, Winter is a charming and cozy celebration of the year's idle months from one of Scotland's best-loved writers.

    Fragmented - A Doctor's Quest to...

    MD Ilana Yurkiewicz

There's an unspoken assumption when we go to see a doctor: the doctor knows our medical story and is making decisions based on that story. But reality often falls short. Medical records vanish when we switch doctors. Critical details of life-saving treatment plans get lost in muddled electronic charts. The doctors we see change according to specialty, hospital shifts, or an insurer's whims.

In this gripping narrative from medicine's front lines, Ilana Yurkiewicz reveals how a system that doesn't talk to itself puts insupportable burdens on physicians, patients, and caregivers. The stories she tells are at once harrowing and commonplace. A patient narrowly averts an unnecessary, invasive heart procedure by producing a worn rhythm strip he has carried in his pocket for a decade. A man diagnosed with leukemia while visiting from abroad has thirty-one physicians, but no one he can call "his" doctor, with tragic consequences. When Yurkiewicz's own father falls ill, a culture that incentivizes health care providers to react with quick fixes leads to weeks of additional suffering.

The system is hanging by a thread, and we need better solutions. Yurkiewicz issues a clear-eyed call for change, naming concrete reforms doctors and policymakers can make, and empowering patients and their loved ones to advocate for themselves in the meantime.

The Egyptian pyramid is one of the most mysterious structures we have on Earth. Many times we will have wondered, seeing the pyramid of Khufu live or in the figure, how it could is been built, chi l'ha messa lì in quel luogo, e quando; ma soprattutto per quale ragione? Consisting of two million three hundred thousand stones, and weighing six millions tons, a mass of stones perfectly embedded like a laser, carried even from distant areas, and weighing eight tons each. When they were new, the pyramids could be compared to jewels, magnificent structures, which time has hardly scratched. But the most frequent question that comes to mind about them is: who built them? And were human beings able at that time to build something so huge and perfect? Or did they accept some outside help? And why was it so important to put them there? What was the purpose of putting them there? Now we will try to explain this great mystery, which shocked even Nicola Tesla, who was almost close to replicating them, creating free energy for the whol
