Sinossi

In "Return to Gone-Away," Elizabeth Enright crafts a rich narrative that explores the themes of nostalgia, childhood rebellion, and the complexities of family life. Continuation of the beloved "Gone-Away Lake," this novel invites readers back to the enchanting landscape of a vanished summer retreat, allowing them to traverse the blurry lines between memory and reality. Enright employs her signature lyrical prose, interspersed with vivid imagery and humor, to evoke the innocence and wonder of childhood adventures, all set against the backdrop of an ever-changing world. The story unfolds through the eyes of the spirited protagonists, Portia and Foster, who navigate their feelings of belonging and alienation as they embark on memorable escapades in their mystical environment. Elizabeth Enright (1909-1968) was a distinguished American author and illustrator, whose experiences as a child in a close-knit family informed much of her writing. Growing up in the suburbs of New York City, Enright was deeply influenced by her connections to nature and the vibrant community around her, themes evident in her narratives. Her ability to weave together humor, sentiment, and a pinch of wistfulness can be traced back to her own childhood memories and her keen observations of the world. I wholeheartedly recommend "Return to Gone-Away" to readers of all ages who seek to rediscover the magic of youth and the echoes of past joys. Enright's enchanting storytelling resonates not only with children but also offers profound insights for adults reflecting on their formative years. This book is a delightful exploration of the eternal quest for adventure and the significance of familial bonds.

Triggerman by J. F. Bone - The essential requirements of a first-class triggerman are two: that he know how to pull the trigger–and when not to!
Jesse Franklin Bone was born in Tacoma Washington in 1916. Before he was an author Bone was a veterinarian, and a professor of veterinary medicine, served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel and retiring in 1976. His first short story, Survival Type, didn't appear in Galaxy Science Fiction until he was 41, in 1957.
About 30 short stories and 5 novels later his 21 year career as an author came to an end. Triggerman first appeared in Astounding Science Fiction in December 1958. It was in Astounding in the UK in March of 1959. Three months later it could be found in the Dell Paperback The Year’s Greatest Science Fiction and Fantasy: 4th Annual Volume and almost 30 other publications around the world.
Which would lead you to believe that this is a really good story. It is, so much so that it was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 1959.

🔱 Looking for a school with monsters, whirlpools, and zero promises you’ll make it out alive? Congratulations—you found it.
When the gods died (spoiler alert: humans totally killed them), their powers scattered like stardust, creating a world where everyone’s born with a gift: a ripple of Poseidon, a blaze of Apollo, a glimmer of Aphrodite…
Thirteen-year-old Hailey Woods? She got Zeus. Storm-summoning powers sound cool… unless you’re the only Zeus in a hundred years and there’s a prophecy floating about saying you’ll have to save the world—um, no pressure.
Hailey isn’t interested in saving anything. She’d rather survive high school without accidentally unleashing a tornado in class.
So when she’s offered a spot at Poseidon’s Academy—a school under the sea where her powers are useless—she dives in (literally) for a shot at a normal life.
No lightning. No pressure. No monsters.
Kidding! There are so many monsters…
Oh, and sea-nymphs—like mermaids, but meaner, less sparkly, and way more into revenge than decorating seashell crowns. They’re plotting to bring back the gods, and if Hailey and her friends don’t stop them, it’s goodbye enchanted sea palace, hello full-blown apocalypse.
Saving the world? Yeah… turns out that might not be optional.
    __________________________________________________
⚡️Poseidon’s Academy is a middle grade fantasy packed with magic, teen demigods, and more mayhem than any school should allow. Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson, Nevermoor, and Amari and the Night Brothers
🌀 The whirlpool’s spinning—jump in if you dare. Worst case? You’re never seen again. Best case? You fight a kraken. Good luck!
