Sinossi

Before "Light My Fire" ignited the world, The Doors were just a flicker in the Los Angeles twilight. "The Doors' Fire" plunges you into the pre-fame years of these iconic musicians, tracing their journey from dimly lit jazz clubs to sun-drenched Venice Beach jams.Witness Jim Morrison's raw poetry ignite on smoky stages, Ray Manzarek's keyboards weave hypnotic spells, John Densmore's drums pound out a restless heartbeat, and Robby Krieger's guitar strings whisper secrets of rebellion. Feel the friction as their musical visions clash and coalesce, the electrifying tension as they test the boundaries of rock and roll. But the road to stardom is paved with dusty garage rehearsals, clashing egos, and the intoxicating haze of Sunset Strip. This is a story of chasing dreams in sun-kissed California, of late-night poetry readings in smoky jazz bars, and of first love's flickering flames against the backdrop of a burgeoning counterculture.Witness their struggles and triumphs, their creative clashes and shared epiphanies. See the birth of iconic riffs and the evolution of lyrics that would become etched in rock history. This is not just the story of The Doors; it's a portrait of a band on the precipice of greatness, before they painted the world with the searing light of their fire.

By the time the Pleistocene Epoch ended around 12,000 years ago, Homo sapiens had become one of the most significant species on the planet. It was also near the end of that period of time that modern humans began to gradually populate what would become Europe, Asia, and the Americas, eventually becoming the inheritors of the Paleolithic era and the only human species to make it into the Neolithic era. The process was long and difficult, and the survival of the species only happened through a combination of human tenacity and a fair amount of luck. As much as humans evolved during the Pleistocene, the topography, geography, and environment changed even more.
The cold Pleistocene temperatures lowered water levels across the planet, exposing land that was not there before or after the period. At the same time, significant regions of the planet were very different during the Pleistocene, including Southeast Asia, particularly the modern islands of Bali, Borneo, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula, roughly equivalent to parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. This region, which modern scholars refer to as Sunda or Sundaland, was unique because all of it was connected by land, meaning today’s islands were once part of a contiguous subcontinent, and in terms of the people, flora, and fauna, it was very different than it is today. If a modern traveler could somehow transport back to the Pleistocene, Sundaland would look nothing like modern Southeast Asia and would resemble as much of a lost world as something out of a science fiction novel.
Although much is still unknown about Sundaland, researchers have uncovered plenty of evidence bringing this lost world to life. As anthropologists and archaeologists developed new models and discovered ancient material culture, they learned that Sundaland played a significant role in the development of Neolithic Southeast Asia in many ways.

Theatre doesn’t have much relevance anymore. Or so acclaimed playwright Darren O’Donnell tells us. The dynamics of unplanned social interaction, he says, are far more compelling than any play he could produce. So his latest show, A Suicide-Site Guide to the City, isn’t really a show; it’s an interactive chitchat about memory, depression, and 9/11, a dazzling whirl of talking streetcars, pizza and schizophrenia. And it’s hilarious.

O’Donnell’s artistic practice has evolved into ‘something as close to hanging out as you can come and still charge admission.’ With his theatre company, Mammalian Diving Reflex, O’Donnell has generated a series of ongoing events that induce interactions between strangers in public; the Talking Creature, Q&A, Home Tours, the Toronto Strategy Meetings and Diplomatic Immunities bring people together in odd configurations, ask revealing questions and prove the generosity, abundance and power of the social sphere.

Social Acupuncture includes the full text of A Suicide-Site Guide to the City and an extensive essay on the waning significance of theatre and the notion of civic engagement and social interaction as an aesthetic.

‘No other playwright working in Toronto right now has O’Donnell’s talent for synthesizing psychosocial, artistic and political random thoughts and reflections into compelling analyses … The world (not to mention the theatre world) could use more of this, if only to get us talking and debating.’
