Sinossi

David Tereshchuk leapt from an unpromising childhood in a small town on the English-Scottish borders to a precocious high-flying career as a TV journalist, first in London, then New York.
During his working life, he has managed to extract revealing answers from tyrants and the oppressed, but never managed to coax his mother into admitting who his father was, even after her revelation to him, when he was in his 50s, that she had been raped, aged 15, by a priest.
Alongside his career, the search for his mother’s abuser has haunted him, adding further layers of stress to a life already marked by alcoholism and insecurity.
This is his astonishing story, and one that deserves to sit alongside those of Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and David Brinkley. A compelling addition to EnvelopeBooks' "Media" and "Memoir" titles.

William Blake was an English poet, painter, and printmaker who lived during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Born on November 28, 1757, in London, England, Blake displayed artistic and poetic talent from an early age. Despite facing financial difficulties and limited formal education, he developed into one of the most visionary and unconventional figures of the Romantic era.
Blake's artistic endeavors spanned both visual arts and literature. As a poet, he is renowned for his innovative and symbolic verse, often exploring themes of spirituality, imagination, and the human experience. His most famous collection of poems is "Songs of Innocence and Experience," where he contrasts the idyllic world of innocence with the harsh realities of experience. Notable poems from this collection include "The Lamb" and "The Tyger."

In addition to his poetic achievements, Blake was a skilled and imaginative visual artist. He was a self-taught engraver, producing intricate and highly symbolic illustrations for his own works. His method of "illuminated printing" involved both text and illustrations being etched onto copper plates, allowing for a seamless integration of words and images. Some of his other notable works include "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell" and prophetic books like "The Book of Urizen" and "The Four Zoas."

One of Blake's distinctive features was his unorthodox spiritual and philosophical beliefs. He was deeply critical of organized religion and the conventional morality of his time. Blake developed a personal mythology incorporating mystical and visionary elements, often challenging traditional Christian doctrines.

‘WEAK IS NOT WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO REMEMBER ABOUT ME.’Al Capone.Back then, hot headed gangsters, not so gentle dames and bullet riddled corpses filled the newspaper headlines. And some of the stories below the headlines were even true. The 1920s was a period in American history when even the respectable were unwilling to stay sober. And not so fast cars carried assassins across Chicago, a city that for many captures the essence of the USA.In TOUGH GUYS IN THE ROOM, the story of Al Capone and his rivals is told in separate and stand-alone topics that cover key figures and events. The crimes and conflict are remembered, and the context that shaped those events and protagonists is explained. The police and the law abiding that made a doomed attempt to impose Prohibition also make an appearance. TOUGH GUYS IN THE ROOM offers a detached and impartial perspective on what happened between the Chicago gangs of the 1920s. There are also some surprises.TOUGH GUYS IN THE ROOM is a must for fans of gangsterdom. This account of what happened in Chicago is kept simple but that does not prevent author Howard Jackson from taking an independent line on the St Valentine’s Day massacre and the character of Al Capone.
