Sinossi

The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri in the early 14th century, is a monumental epic poem that explores the soul's journey towards God, encapsulated within the structure of Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Heaven (Paradiso). Dante employs a rich tapestry of allegory and symbolism, blending classical mythology with Christian theology, and his innovative use of the vernacular Tuscan dialect marks a pivotal shift in Italian literature. This work not only reflects the medieval worldview and the interplay of fate, free will, and divine justice but also serves as a profound meditation on human nature and moral philosophy, contributing significantly to the literary context of the Renaissance and beyond. Dante Alighieri, a political figure and a poet from Florence, was deeply influenced by the tumultuous events of his life, including exile from his beloved city. This personal strife, combined with his extensive knowledge of classical texts and Christian teachings, shaped the moral and spiritual themes of The Divine Comedy. His dedication to using literature as a means of societal reflection underscores his desire to guide readers towards enlightenment and moral rectitude. Readers seeking an illuminating exploration of the human condition will find The Divine Comedy indispensable. Dante's intricate narrative and philosophical depth invite both scholars and casual readers to reflect on the universal themes of sin, redemption, and the pursuit of divine truth. This timeless masterpiece continues to resonate with contemporary audiences, making it an essential read for anyone interested in literature, theology, or the human experience.

More Than Weeds, the debut poetry collection by L. Kiew, explores the language of migration and how it is used in relation to plant and animal species, as well as peoples. These knowledgeable and verdant poems draw deeply on botanical and ecological detail and reveal secret histories thriving in the gaps between definitions; here are precious seedlings, unforced flowers, tongues of leaves, tangled roots and rhizomes.
With roots in decolonialising botany and horticulture movements, and influenced by the impact of the climate crisis and regenerative gardening practices, Kiew's poetry is alive and thronging with the interconnected nature of things – and the formative forces of nurture, family, food, refuge and love. Human and plant voices speak for themselves of experiences of belonging and displacement, as well as encounters with violence. These vivid poems that ask us to scrutinise what is really contained or constrained by demarcations – whether those of weed or wildflower, or of borders and hostile environments.

Azuka Oforka's play The Women of Llanrumney is a powerful, searing drama that explores the impact of slavery and the lives of women who experienced it – those who benefitted from it, those who were brutalised by it and those who fought to destroy it. "This book has shaped this piece of text [ITSELF] already—by neighbouring it (& in my mind) co-opted it, made it something other than an essay—part of SWANSEA culture—We obey these local rules slavishly—and fail to exploit them—[NOT SURE WHAT I'M ON ABOUT HERE]"Authorial violence: Swansea Automatic was published 10 years ago, around the last year of the snake to 0 acclaim except for by those who read it of course. I even did a little residency, which was more like squatting ina little shop on the High Street, Swansea but as time has passed, I came to consider this one of my few, if not only book that can boast the synthesis of my extreme late modernist tendencies and some attempt to fit into the aesthetic of popular fiction. nonetheless it doesn't pull too many punches, it's comedy, it's poetry, it's deconstructed pros,e even philosophy, textual analysis, cynghanedd, and more.Spinning Around the dirty first person narrative is the self-referential Vonegut and recycled psychogeographic of the Fiery Elephant of Johnson, Brooke-Rose, and Sinclair. An attempt to exercise the Demon of Swansea from my formative years. But actually set in North Wales just as much. Swansea is a dream city that could just as easily be London, Glasgow, Belfast, Lublin or Cairo...A second bite the cherry: a second edition is occurring, along with the audiobook and kindle edition and the album (movie!), hopefully generatinga hammer blow on the collective unconscious of our post-media universe. Swansea Automatic justifies itself to me because 2015 was also the very last gasp of the fin de siècle of the apocalyptic contemporary, where the post beats, post flaneur metanarratives where still just about alive. It's rare for me to look back, but I had an idea this one could be a cult book somehow. Help it become so and consume as such, cultishly.

The language of Poetry is an art that most of us attempt at some point in our lives. But finding a starting point can be overwhelming, even off-putting, so in this series we offer up our Top 10 classic poets, who brim with talent and verse, on a range of subjects and themes that we can all enjoy.

War may be called diplomacy by other means but for the youth of a nation, pressed into service for that nation, its effects are horror, terror, injury, trauma and the likelihood of death. Within the words of these 10 poets, dreams, ambition and reality collide into some very vivid and moving words.
