Kamenetz's poems whirl and shake on the page. He is the poet of the living history of unspeakable names and his book...sings with dark wit the tales of tough family spirits. --Louise Erdrich, author of Love Medicine and The Night Watchman.
These are very exciting and original poems...a secret and almost intimate meeting place of English and Hebrew. --Yehuda Amichai, author of A Life of Poetry, 1948-1994 and Open Closed Open: Poems

This comprehensive audio guide helps actors and language enthusiasts master the distinctive sounds of Philadelphia speech. Perfect for performers preparing for auditions, dialect coaches, and anyone fascinated by American regional accents.

Discover the unique "wooder" phenomenon, where locals transform "water" into something entirely different. Learn the complex Short-A Split System that gives Philadelphia speech its characteristic melody. The guide breaks down distinctive consonant patterns like L-vocalization and subtle R-dropping that create authentic Philly speech rhythm.

Explore how nasal resonance uniquely shapes vowel sounds and understand unexpected stress patterns in multi-syllabic words. Follow along with practice phrases and exercises developed by a dialect expert to internalize these speech patterns naturally.

The course includes contemporary and traditional pronunciations, showing how the accent evolves across generations while maintaining its core character. Build an authentic vocabulary with regional expressions like "jawn," "youse," and "down the shore."

Whether you're studying dialect for acting roles, preparing for an upcoming Philadelphia-based production, or simply interested in American regional speech patterns, this audio resource provides everything needed to convincingly reproduce this distinctive urban dialect.

Keywords: Philadelphia accent, Philly dialect training, acting preparation, regional American speech, dialect coaching, wooder pronunciation, short-a split, L-vocalization

The language of Poetry is an art that most of us attempt at some point in our lives. Although its commonplace exposure has been somewhat marginalised in today’s often fast-paced lives we all recognise good verse that can empathise with our thoughts or open us up to experience new things in new ways, to better understand and to enjoy the many strands of our lives.
But finding a starting point can be overwhelming, even off-putting, so in this series we offer up our Top 10 classic poets, who brim with talent and verse, on a range of subjects and themes that we can all enjoy.
In this volume we explore those who plied their trade for the Fourth Estate but whose natural talent with words we more readily associate with their poetry. Their verse enshrines that view.

This is a tale of A BLACK MAN, not THE BLACK MAN, for we're not a monolith. We each have different ways of being. Maybe a collection like this changes perceptions, for we’re not only a group who share a similar hue. There’s a range to our melanin, a variety in BLACK MEN, not every man is hyper-masculine.
However, to our stereotypes, we’re hyper-vigilant.
This collection crafts a narrative that encompasses the different aspects of a BLACK MAN. Each section is diverse and unique but tells the tale of the whole man, the whole person. I'm hopeful this will change the way we're viewed in the eyes of some. For we're not merely the sum of our parts. We're people, we're men. We each have a purpose, families, and friends. We have hearts, flaws, and strengths too. We have joys and talents, just like you.
And just like everyone else, we seek to find a balance.

Every day we try to do our best just being men, for it's already hard enough being Black, Man!
