Sinossi

In "The Black Hills, Mid-Continent Resort," Albert N. Williams meticulously explores the unique geographical and cultural tapestry of the Black Hills region, blending rich narrative with detailed analysis. The book employs a descriptive yet analytical style, immersing the reader in the stunning landscapes and the historical significance of the area as a mid-continental tourist destination. Williams situates the Black Hills within broader discussions of American identity and leisure, tracing the evolution of its status from indigenous sacred land to a prominent site of recreation and commerce, particularly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Albert N. Williams, a celebrated historian and geographer, has dedicated much of his career to studying regional American landscapes and their socio-cultural implications. His background in environmental studies and local history, combined with a passion for preserving and understanding place-based narratives, informs this extensive exploration. Williams's research is not only grounded in empirical data but also reflects a deep appreciation for the personal stories that shape the collective memory of the Black Hills. This book is essential for scholars, students, and anyone interested in American history, geography, or tourism studies. Williams's insights and lyrical prose invite readers to appreciate the Black Hills not just as a vacation spot but as a complex, living narrative woven into the fabric of American experience.

Did you know that Viking-age Swedes were the founding dynasty of what eventually became Russia?

In contrast to their Danish and Norwegian cousins, Swedish Vikings traveled east rather than west in search of riches, land, and power. The extensive river systems of Russia provided economic and military "super-highways" to the adventurers from the north, who journeyed down them all the way to the Black Sea and Constantinople in search of fame and riches.

The rise in TV shows and movies has renewed people's interest in Vikings, but the Swedish Vikings have been notably absent from these accounts. In Captivating History's History of Sweden, you will learn more about these Swedish adventurers, along with other parts of Sweden's fascinating history.

In this book, you will discover:

    -  The Swedes' fierce struggle to gain independence
    -  The "Father of Sweden," King Gustav Vasa, and his dynasty spawned some of the greatest military minds in Europe
    -  How the Swedish Empire achieved success and expanded as far as North America
    -  Sweden's revolutionary war tactics and how they led to victories on the battlefield
    -  Why Sweden adopted its famous policy of neutrality
    -  The hero Raoul Wallenberg and his role in WWII
    -  And much more!

    By Dudley Wright
Introduction by Professor Edmund J. Mills
    Narrated by Oberon Michaels
Buddhism has a vast array of scriptures but a relatively small body of essential doctrines. In this short treatise the author presents a systematic introduction to Buddhist teaching, commencing with a discussion of the Noble Eightfold Path. Other topics include the Buddhist views of God and enlightenment, and the practice of Buddhism in the world of today.
Dudley Wright (1868 - 1949) wrote extensively on a wide variety of religious subjects and was also active as an investigator of the paranormal. He was a practising Freemason, who believed that all religions shared a common basis.

It seems so much is going wrong in America. Some say it’s because our leaders are incompetent. Others think it’s merely a coincidence. But to millions of concerned Americans, those simplistic explanations no longer ring true.
Instead, they sense something else is going on…
Kevin Freeman is one of them. Drawing on his deep expertise in investigative analysis, he took a hard look at all that America is going through. Piecing together historical evidence and current events, he made a shocking discovery:
The crises now facing America are happening according to plan.
Decades in the making, it is a plan to take down the greatest obstacle to totalitarianism the world has ever known: the United States. And it’s a plan that will succeed—unless we join together now to save America.

Black Folk - The Roots of the...

There have been countless books, articles, and televised reports in recent years about the almost mythic "white working class," a tide of commentary that has obscured the labor, and even the very existence, of entire groups of working people, including everyday Black workers. In this brilliant corrective, Black Folk, acclaimed historian Blair LM Kelley restores the Black working class to the center of the American story.

Spanning two hundred years—from one of Kelley's earliest known ancestors, an enslaved blacksmith, to the essential workers of the Covid-19 pandemic—Black Folk highlights the lives of the laundresses, Pullman porters, domestic maids, and postal workers who established the Black working class as a force in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Taking jobs white people didn't want and confined to segregated neighborhoods, Black workers found community in intimate spaces, from stoops on city streets to the backyards of washerwomen, where multiple generations labored from dawn to dusk, talking and laughing in a space free of white supervision. As millions of Black people left the violence of the American South for the promise of a better life in the North and West, these networks of resistance and joy sustained early arrivals and newcomers alike and laid the groundwork for organizing for better jobs, better pay, and equal rights.

Its teachings are grounded in whānaungatanga, Māoritanga, religious values and academic excellence. The college has given rise to numerous Māori trailblazers in a variety of fields. This book brings together the recollections of former pupils, staff and whānau (over 160 interviews were conducted). At its core, it is a story of sisterhood.
