The relationship between Freddie Mercury and Jim Hutton evolved over several months in 1984 and 1985. Even when they first slept together, Hutton had no idea who Mercury was, and, when the star told him his name, it meant nothing to him. Hutton worked as a barber at the Savoy Hotel and retained his job and his lodgings in Sutton, Surrey, for two years after moving in with Mercury, and then worked as his gardener. He was never fully assimilated into Mercury's jet-setting lifestyle, nor did he want to be, but, from 1985 until Mercury's death in 1991, he was closer to him than anyone and knew all Mercury's closest friends: the other members of Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, and Phil Collins, to name a few. Ever present at the countless Sunday lunch gatherings and opulent parties, Hutton has a wealth of anecdotes as well as a deep understanding of Mercury's life. He also nursed Mercury through his terminal illness, often held him throughout the night in his final weeks, and was with him as he died. No one can tell the story of the last few years of Mercury's private life—the ecstasies and the agonies—more accurately or honestly than Jim Hutton.

This is an almost true Irish story. Murphy was a child of the newly emerging 1950's Irish middle class. He was raised in the environment of a conflicted marriage that never should have happened. While his privileged upbringing seemed idyllic to the outside world, his reality was starkly different. Life at home was always turbulent; he never knew what daily chaos would erupt. His 13-year Jesuit education was academically excellent. But it also resulted in a childhood love of God being beaten out of him, while confirming his condemnation to burn forever in hell. Murphy was unsettled by the rigid Irish class system where social status predetermined one's future, thereby condemning innocent children and adults to the inevitability of an impoverished life. Signs of his destruction from alcohol were evident in his early teens. He became a meteor raging through the lives of those who loved him and many who didn't.

This Irish memoir of an Irish Catholic childhood begins in Limerick, Ireland, and takes us on a personal journey complete with the challenges of Catholic schooling, the confusion of adolescence within a culture that condemned even the thought of anything carnal, the allure of omnipresent alcohol, and the desperate need to escape the misery so bound up in strong family ties that escape was near impossible.
Told with forgiveness and humor and compassion for the innocent child who turned rebellious and self-destructive and learned most lessons the hard way.
    An Author's Republic audio production.

This is the story about Michelle McNamara, author of I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer. This is a story of courage, love and dedication. A story of misery, depravity and cruelty. It is the shock of an untimely death—a twist in the story no one saw coming. This is the story of a birth—a birth of a book.

For his 87th birthday, he celebrated by jumping out of a perfectly goodairplane at 14,000 feet! Charles says that being the father of his four children definitely helped prepare him for directing a zoo in Iowa and operating a breeding facility for large cats in Michigan during the next chapter of his story.Yes, zoo director, breeder of big cats, and wildlife photographer specializing in bears . . . and then, the too-soon death of the mother of his children by a drunk driver. Another chapter.Eventually Charles met and married his present wife Nancy, the inspiration for this book. Nothing that had gone before could possibly have prepared him for the cascade of tests that were to come. That is what this book is about. Twenty-one years of caregiving can present some daunting challenges, many joyous moments, much laughter, a bunch of pain, and many, many victories.
