Sinossi

"Climate Change Reality" delivers a comprehensive examination of global warming by weaving together scientific evidence, policy analysis, and actionable solutions for addressing our escalating climate crisis. The book uniquely bridges the gap between complex climate science and practical understanding by presenting detailed research from leading institutions like NASA and NOAA in accessible terms, while incorporating recently declassified climate data from the 1950s to provide crucial historical context.

The narrative unfolds across three main sections, beginning with a robust foundation of scientific evidence drawn from ice cores, satellite observations, and atmospheric measurements. It then progresses through the evolution of international climate policy, showcasing successful initiatives like Scandinavian carbon pricing and Costa Rican reforestation programs. The final section outlines concrete actions at governmental, corporate, and individual levels, providing readers with practical frameworks for carbon reduction and sustainable development.

What sets this book apart is its interdisciplinary approach, connecting environmental science with economics, public policy, and social psychology. Through clear, data-driven analysis and relevant analogies, it makes complex climate concepts accessible to a diverse audience ranging from policymakers to concerned citizens. The book maintains objectivity while emphasizing the urgency of climate action, offering both comprehensive understanding and practical tools for measuring and reducing climate impact at various scales.

Virgil’s The Aeneid is a Roman epic that tells the legendary journey of Aeneas, a Trojan hero destined to found a new civilization in Italy after the fall of Troy. Guided by fate and the gods, Aeneas sails through storms, battles, and heartbreak, including a tragic love affair with Dido, Queen of Carthage. Upon reaching Latium, he faces war with local tribes, led by Turnus, to fulfill his destiny. Blending Homeric adventure with Roman ideals of duty, piety, and empire, the poem glorifies Rome’s origins and the divine mission of its people. Rich in emotional depth and political vision, The Aeneid is both a national epic and a profound meditation on sacrifice, leadership, and the cost of destiny.

Fenianism was the Irish separatist movement committed to winning Irish freedom through revolution. Defeated often, its tremendous resilience enabled it to rise time and again, phoenix-like, until it eventually inspired the 1916 Easter Rising, soon followed by an Irish War of Independence that finally established an Irish Free State.
The Fenian Rising vividly describes the evolution of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and its American counterpart, the Fenian Brotherhood, two revolutionary organisations dedicated to overthrowing British rule in Ireland and establishing an Irish Republic. Led by James Stephens, nineteenth-century Ireland's most important revolutionary, the IRB rapidly became an increasingly serious threat which Dublin Castle struggled unsuccessfully for years to suppress. Despite Stephens's downfall in January 1867 the long-anticipated rising followed two months later.
In spite of its failure, republicans snatched political victory from the jaws of defeat when in September 1867 the execution of the Manchester Martyrs galvanised every shade of Irish nationalism. Rising from the ashes, the IRB survived to eventually become what one historian has called the most enduring and successful revolutionary secret society in Europe.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YESTERDAY'S WINNING FORMULA BECOMES TODAY'S LIABILITY? In this bold and thought-provoking book, Western Democracy: The First Mover Disadvantage, the triumphs of Western democracies are reexamined as the seeds of their current struggles. Once hailed as the pinnacle of governance, freedom, and prosperity, the West now faces mounting challenges: unsustainable welfare states, deindustrialization, entrenched interest groups, and a paralyzing inability to adapt to shifting global dynamics. Meanwhile, China has risen as a global powerhouse by learning from—and improving upon—the West's model. By blending state-led planning with market innovation, China has avoided the pitfalls of short-termism and systemic inertia. Its unparalleled adaptability and strategic foresight have propelled it to the forefront of technology, infrastructure, and economic development. But this isn't just a story about decline or rivalry. It's a call to action. The book argues that for Western democracies to remain relevant, they must rediscover the innovative spirit and pragmatism that once defined their success. It also challenges long-held assumptions about U.S.–China relations, proposing a future of collaboration over confrontation in addressing global challenges like climate change, artificial intelligence, and economic inequality. Compelling, provocative, and deeply insightful, Western Democracy: The First Mover Disadvantage will change how you think about the past, present, and future of global power. Will the West cling to its outdated playbook or dare to weave a new path forward? The answer may shape the 21st century.

This groundbreaking resource moves us from theory to action with a practical plan for reparations.

A surge in interest in black reparations is taking place in America on a scale not seen since the Reconstruction Era. The Black Reparations Project gathers an accomplished interdisciplinary team of scholars—members of the Reparations Planning Committee—who have considered the issues pertinent to making reparations happen. This book will be an essential resource in the national conversation going forward.

The first section of The Black Reparations Project crystallizes the rationale for reparations, cataloguing centuries of racial repression, discrimination, violence, mass incarceration, and the immense black-white wealth gap. Drawing on the contributors' expertise in economics, history, law, public policy, public health, and education, the second section unfurls direct guidance for building and implementing a reparations program, including draft legislation that addresses how the program should be financed and how claimants can be identified and compensated. Rigorous and comprehensive, The Black Reparations Project will motivate, guide, and speed the final leg of the journey for justice.

    Destruction of 17th Century...

In the mid-17th century, the heart of England fell victim to the mother of all epidemic catastrophes. The city of London was a ghost town, deserted by those who knew better than to hang around in a breeding ground that offered near-certain doom. Those who were confined within the city's borders had to make do with what they had, and the pitifully low morale seemed appropriate; the reek of rot and decomposition pervaded the air day in and day out, while corpses, young and old, riddled with strange swellings and blackened boils, littered the streets. For Londoners, to say it was hell would be an understatement.
With some bad luck and bad timing, a potential disaster awaited the city, and that finally came in September 1666. As it turned out, the Great Fire of London was so bad that one author who studied the blaze described it as “the perfect fire,” referring to the convergence in the largest city in England of spark, wood and wind in such a way that no one could stop the fire or even fight it effectively. John Evelyn, who had warned of the potential for a devastating fire given the layout of the city, noted that people seemed so stunned by the scope of the fire that they didn’t know what to do: “The conflagration was so universal, and the people so astonished, that from the beginning, I know not by what despondency or fate, they hardly stirred to quench it, so that there was nothing heard or seen but crying out and lamentation, running about like distracted creatures without at all attempting to save even their goods, such a strange consternation there was upon them.”
While the fire quickly spread throughout the heart of the city, the only thing that saved London’s suburbs was an ancient wall built around the city to keep the enemies of Rome out, not the fire in.  . By the time it was finished, most of the city’s homes and churches lay in ashes, and nearly 90% of the city’s citizens were left homeless.
