Sinossi

Brief Laughter Effect uncovers the science behind humor’s surprising power to combat stress through tiny, intentional moments of laughter. Blending psychology and neuroscience, the book challenges the idea that only prolonged humor sessions matter, arguing instead that “humor microdosing”—quick, deliberate exchanges like sharing a meme or a playful comment—can cumulatively reduce cortisol, boost resilience, and rewire stress responses.

Central to its thesis is laughter’s dual role as both a biological tool (triggering endorphins and calming the nervous system) and a social glue that strengthens relationships, even in high-pressure environments. The book grounds its insights in relatable examples, such as healthcare workers using brief humor during shifts to lower stress hormones, and brain imaging studies showing how humor activates reward centers.

Unlike generic self-help approaches, it offers structured yet flexible strategies—like tracking “laughter triggers” or using absurdity to reframe frustrations—that fit into busy lives. Chapters progress from explaining laughter’s physiological mechanics to practical techniques for embedding humor into daily routines, workplace dynamics, and personal relationships.

By balancing empirical research with anecdotes, Brief Laughter Effect stands out as a guide that’s both rigorously evidence-based and immediately usable, making it ideal for anyone seeking accessible, science-backed tools to lighten life’s pressures.

Book: Khalsa Butt Na Manne Koi
Edited By: Parmjeet Singh Gazi, Ravinderpal Singh
In Sikh history, the tradition of idol worship or communicating through images was never accepted. If such a practice was ever raised, it was rejected by Guru Sahib during the Guru's time, and later by Sikhs. This book contains various articles written by different individuals about the new phenomenon of idol-making in the Sikh community.
These articles discuss the prohibition of idol worship in the light of Sikh principles, with ample references to support the argument. All these articles provide a well-reasoned response to the arguments in favor of idol-making. They are based on Gurbani and the teachings of the Gurus, with references to historical facts.
Overall, the book's articles are valuable and serve as a reminder for every Sikh who remains committed to the Guru's path. The publication of this book is very important today, so that people can understand the issue through Panthic references rather than mere rationality and promote the teachings of Sikh tradition for future generations.

The next amendment to the U.S. Constitution will enable anyone to put their proposed law on the Federal Ballot - A Real Democracy at last! The founding fathers of this nation assembled it during the horse-and-buggy era, a time without telephones, electricity, or the Internet. In the modern era, with the Internet at our disposal, we have the opportunity and the means to VOTE ONLINE and to cast our votes on National Ballot Measures. We can and we will get this country back as the greatest country in the history of the world, but only if we start down the right path NOW and this can happen only with your support.

Like no other work before it, Making a Career in Dictatorship dives deep into the authoritarian security apparatus to identify which officers participate in repression or coups—and above all, why.The book's compelling theory uncovers career pressure as the secret driver behind the two most notorious phenomena of authoritarian power politics. Officers disadvantaged in their professional advancement either try to demonstrate their loyalty to the current regime by participating in repression, or to commend themselves to a successor regime by participating in a coup. The book offers a wealth of unprecedented evidence in support of its unified theory. Based on unique career data on thousands of Argentine army officers, in-depth case studies on Hitler's Germany, Stalin's Soviet Union, and Jawara's Gambia, and a global analysis of authoritarian regimes since 1945, a striking pattern emerges: career pressure fuels extreme behavior. By revealing for the first time the organizational structure, promotion systems, and career paths within the authoritarian security apparatus, the book shows how seemingly banal career concerns shape the bottom-up dynamics of regime survival and collapse. In times of rising authoritarianism, this book offers key insights into how states and societies fall victim to illiberal leaders and their willing enforcers.

    Common Sense

    Thomas Paine

Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775-1776 advocating independence from Great Britain to people in the 13 Colonies. Writing in clear and persuasive prose, Paine marshaled moral and political arguments to encourage common people in the Colonies to fight for egalitarian government. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution, and became an immediate sensation.
It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history. As of 2006, it remains the all-time best-selling American title, and is still in print today.
Common Sense made public a persuasive and impassioned case for independence, which before the pamphlet had not yet been given serious intellectual consideration. Paine connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity, structuring "Common Sense" as if it were a sermon. Historian Gordon S. Wood described "Common Sense" as "the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era".
